| So it appears the musky world keeps pushing towards longer and longer rods. I don't think I could ever go to a telescoping rod due to all the issues reported by people that I know that have them. So my question is for the guys that have 1 piece 8'6 or longer rods. How do you transport them to and from the lake. I have a crew cab Ford and the longest I can fit in the cab is a 8' rod. The bed is out of the question and my boat doesn't have rod storage for something that large. Any body have any creative ideas? I was thinking about bolting a piece of 12" dia pvc pipe to the roof of my truck and just throwing the rods in there. |

| I've had a 9'3" TI telescopic for at least 3 years now with zero issues. Collapses to about 7.5'. I don't know what problems others have had, but mine stays tight while I'm using it and I don't have problems getting it back down. Depending on the type of boat you have something like these rod straps might work for you:

| I have 2 TI 9ft telo rods they have been great. No issues at all. For my 1 pc 8'6" and 9' rods I transport them in my boat. I lay the handles on the back deck or seat with the tips on the front deck with a pool noodle over them for protection then bungee the handles to the boat. Works for me. |

Location: South-Central PA | There's nothing to be afraid of with today's telescoping rods, they are light years ahead of the rods from a few years ago.
As far as rod transportation, here's how I do it. I have a 2006 Tundra crew cab so I can't get anything but short rods in it- but I don't use short rods. I have a Jeraco cap that a buddy built a custom roof rack on. The aluminum rails used for the rack accept carriage bolts that can be used to bolt things down. My rod tubes are made of 8" schedule 40 PVC pipe and they are 10.5' long. The tubes are bolted and ratchet strapped to the rack and I used a screw in cap that is locked to keep the rods from disappearing. I can provide some pictures if you like.

| I have 3 of the TI telescopic rods. I think they are a great value and have everything I look for in a rod. The telescopic feature works great. Never had it loosen on me and is easy to collapse back down. I do recommend them. |

| 1. Rod butts on the floor in the passenger seat, on an angle extending between the seats to the opposite corner. I have to tie a rag around the tips to keep them from rattling against the back window, and it eliminates the possibility of front seat passengers, but it works.
2. Buy an extendable rod tube and strap it down in the back of your truck on an angle (I have an 8 foot bed, so it may not work for shorter trucks.
That said, I have NOT had good luck with telescopic rods. They work, but they loosen up several times a day. If you really crank on them hard, they will stay extended. But good luck collapsing them again! |

| I have a 6.5' bed with a leer topper and thule bars on top of it. i can fit 8' rods in the bed at an angle, but it puts stress on them. i typically will bungy the rods to the thule bars on top if i am not pulling the boat. |

Here are the pictures. The rack is made up of two 2" aluminum bars that run from side to side- one at the front of the cap and one at the back. The bars have two sides with a track cut into them that accepts carriage bolts in the center. You can then slide the carriage bolts left or right depending on what you're hauling. My buddy also welded up some brackets for me to aid in strapping things down. He powdercoated the rack and brackets as well.
My rod tubes are the aforementioned 8" PVC tubes. I left them the full 10' length and then glued a cap on the front and an adapter with a screw in cap on the back (this added at least 6" to them). I spent about $200 on the tubes and the rack itself cost me a custom rod. Not a bad deal.
I drilled the tubes to accept the carriage bolts and they have lock nuts on them so nothing can get away. I also ratchet strap them on- I'm not taking any chances!!! I like this setup because it is a very safe way to haul rods and it's also secure. You can also see the small handles I bolted on, they are a lifesaver when carrying the tubes!

Location: Detroit River | When I fish on other people's boats I put my rods through the sliding rear window in my Ford Ranger. The butt of the rods are on the floor in the front passenger side & lay up against my arm-rest with the tips sticking out the rear window.
I have a 9' TI XH telescopic that I've used for the last 5 season & no issues with it. I did fish the last day of the season (Dec. 15th) on LSC this past season & wasn't able to collapse the rod because it was cold out & the rod was wet & frozen. |

Location: Excelsior, MN | I've been working on a couple prototypes for Rod Carrying Cases as the length of rods has continued to increase.
One option is adjustable in length but would require removing the reels. This prototype was on display at the Chicago Musky Show.
The other option shown in this photo is 10' long, holds both the rod and reels, and is lockable. I will have the two prototypes at the Milwaukee Musky Expo this next weekend to check out.
The concept is to allow the rod carry case to be mounted to a luggage rack and possibly also mounted in a guys boat. Note: both of the prototypes are currently clear.
