Hey everyone,

Im currently thinking about making a trip to look at a replacement tiller for my Tuffy Stinger. I have found a '99 tiller Mercury 50hp ELHPT 4-stroke for a reasonable price, but I have never owned a 4-stroke before.

I have seen mulptiple other deals on engines, but most seem to be set up for remotes and the tiller kits seem to run $500+.

Can anyone shed some light on this motor (good/bad/otherwise)? I have done some googling, but had limited success.

Thanks!
Shep

I think this is still the carburated Yamaha powerhead. Good reliability, but it is carbed and can be prone to carb issues if the fuel is not stabilized and run QuiK Kleen regular. If it idles even, and smooth, then your on the right track. I'd get a compression check, and would want to hear it run.
