Muskie Fishing -> General Discussion -> Cass Lake- June or July?

Subject: Cass Lake- June or July?

I have a weeklong trip planned to Cass Lake with 3 other guys from work. Friends' free cabin and boat.
We have a choice between the first week of June or the first week of July. Which date would you choose? July sounds warmer, more stable- but I hear the mayflies can get bad about that time, and any walleye fishing these guys want to do may be wasted time. Never been to Cass, but I am very familiar with Leech in August. Any advice on this lake at this time would be appreciated.
All the best,
Don

First week in August would be better! Cass musky fishing is generally slow early, and improves as the year progresses. Of your choices, I would take July, as the walleye fishing can also be a little slow early in the year, particulary if there has been a late spring. If you do go in June, you might want to take the channel into Andrusia for better early season walleye action.
