I recently got the lake maps chip from garmin for my handheld GPS. I was wondering if anyone uses a lake mapping chip in their auto GPS? I was thinking of getting a compatible car GPS and using it in the boat as well as in a vehicle. A new GPS for the boat isn't in the cards right now. Thanks

Yes they work but most aren't water proof or shock proof. The Nuvi 500 is but its a lot more expensive than the standard Nuvi's
