| Probably the single largest factor is the Catch, Photo, release ethic here. Muskies Inc started promoting CPR in the late 70's and early 80's, and through very hard work and time, Muskie anglers have adopted the idea wholesale.
Some areas of Canada are managing the Pike population for trophy class fish by placing a smaller possession limit of 4 total, and adding a slot. Pike under 27.5 inches can be kept, and only ONE of the possession limit may be over about 36". No fish between 27.5" and 36" maybe harvested. This is fairly new law, but it is REALLY working on the Ontario waters I fish.
