A buddy of mine has a 93 Evinrude that will engage into reverse every time, but will not always engage forward. When he puts it into gear the prop doesnt even spin, but if you go to reverse and then go back forward it will engage. Does anyone out there know what could be wrong? He is getting ready to trade this boat in and was wondering if there was a quick fix or even a way to mask the problem. I think it may be something in the lower unit or the hub of the prop, but I am far from an expert in motors. Thanks in advance for your input.

Check the controls and cables first.
