Subject: water bodies with shad?

I have been trying and thinking of trying some new waters that are shad based, and was hoping you guys could tell me about how you go about breaking down a shad lake? Specific signs water temps, cover, food, that gizzard shad would relate to. Any info would be greatly appreciated[:bigsmile:]

Shad can really be about anywhere in a lake. Most often they are in open water and can be seen high in the water column. I have seen them on shallow flats and over weeds at times. Find some good wind blown structure and you are likely to find shad. That may be the easiest way to find them. Current and neck down areas are good too. They are not hard to find on the electronics either. They often show up as a funnel shaped thing on the screen. Sometimes it's huge, from top to bottom and often times you mark bigger fish around it. Trolling is the best way to fish around them. Gizzard shad are common around here and get up to 18" long. Threadfin are much smaller but don't do well in water that gets colder than 55 degrees.
