Have you guys had any problems trolling with rods equipped with aluminum oxide guides? I'm looking at getting a couple inexpensive rods (like Shimano TDRs, or Okuma Convectors) to troll with. I'll probably be spooling the rods with heavy mono. Any comments or experience with these rods or guides would be appreciated.

you will not have any issues running mono on aluminum oxide guides. I run several Shimano talora rods. they are awesome. I also have custom built trolling sticks that have fuji hardloy guides. This guide is probably the most used guide by musky anglers. Hardloy guides are also aluminum oxide just a different blend and it is harder on the vickers hardness scale. Hope this helps.
