Hello

I have been reading this site and other muskie sites looking to improve on my existing equipment. great site It would appear that three rods would cover the majority of situations for muskie fishing. based on 8'6" length

Could you provide guidance on picking three rods and describe the application for each rod.

The selection is not limited to factory rods

as an aside i fish for muskie less then 30 hours a season

Here are my 3 main rods and the application for each:

8'6" heavy power with Abu 7000iC3 for big blade baits like DCG's, Giant Flashers, large spinners, etc. Also use this for Mag Dawgs and large deep diving cranks, or other large, heavy baits, not just the hard pulling ones like big cranks or big blade baits.

8' medium-heavy power with Abu Big Game 7000 for small/medium cranks, bucktails, topwaters.

6'9" heavy power with Abu 6500C3 for jerkbaits. Will also use this for Dawgs and Mag Dawgs.

I generally keep a fourth ready to go which is just a heavy power bass-type rod (rated for 1/2 - 1 1/2 oz. lures) with an Abu 6500C3 that I'll occasionally use for "regular" sized bucktails and smaller cranks. I'll use this if I get tired from throwing the larger stuff. Also comes in handy if something should happen to my 8' MH described above.

I don't throw anything larger than a Mag Dawg.
