are all planer boards created equal or is one brand better then the other for trolling musky baits.

Go with a heavier, dual board for those heavier baits. A small lightweight version will be pulled under by some larger lures. Look at the design by Mike at www.fishall-lures.com to see what a good dual ski looks like. Good luck.
