For the past few years, the Fargo-Moorhead Chapter of Muskies Inc. has held an on-ice clean up of Detroit Lake in MN. We pick up all the stuff left behind by the ice fishermen. Last year that amounted to 2 pickup loads worth of trash.

We held this year's get together last Saturday. Although I couldn't make it due to work obligations, I did see some photos showing a lot of stuff that was gathered up. All of which would have floated around the lake or sank to the bottom when the ice melted. Wood, car parts, etc.

I know other Muskies Inc. Chapters and fishing groups were thinking of doing this after seeing the photo I posted here last year. Did anyone else get out? Are there any that still plan to do this? It's a great time, and a really good PR move, and I urge you to give it a try. Even if you're not part of any organization, just get a bunch of guys and a few 4 wheelers together and take care of your favorite local lake. I bet you'll be glad you made the effort. Thanks.

St. Cloud chapter did not get out to clean Sugar and Alexander this year due to heavy snowfall. We plan on cruising the shorelines to pick up any trash shortly after ice-out, hopefully in the next few weeks. We were disappointed that the weather prevented us from getting it done this year as usual.

Previous years ice cleanups have been very successful and have gone a long way in showing lake associations and residents that musky fishermen do care about the lakes they fish.
