Have any private groups (MI chapters, etc.) assisted in the removal, transport, and relocation of a lake's entire population of adult size fish?

Drought conditions and worst case scenarios have me wondering about the logistics of such a project...our G&P would assist but....

Anybody out there with some ideas on "best practices"? Things to avoid?

Thanks,

Brian

Well, we tried. West Virginia's DNR in cooperation with Muskies Inc. Chapter 9 and some bass clubs stood ready last year at Woodrum Lake to rescue stressed fish. A federal program of checking the dam's drain gate caused a malfunction and the lake drained almost entirely. Unfortunately, low dissolved oxygen levels and high temps resulted in no fish being recovered alive.

Scott Morrison with WV DNR helped develop an extensive protocol for this effort, and the agency sent every available man to the job.

Our club helped seed the lake bottom with grass and bought starter minnows to get the food chain going again. They will restock bass later this year and muskies in a few more. If you need contact info, PM me. As far as things to avoid, avoid draining your lake in mid-summer! m
