Subject: Winterizing Damage

I have a friend who has an inboard/outboard engine on his glastron boat. He did not winterize the motor. When he took it out this weekend, he had problems with it. He just took it into the shop and is awaiting the damage report. In the mean time he is trying to guess what the cost of the fix will be.

Do any of you have experiece or know anything about this? He said something had cracked...and that is visable. Any comments would be appreciated. What can he expect?

A friend of mine neglected to get his I/O winterized soon enough several years ago. He was lucky, some of the freeze plugs popped out. I have another friend who uses this board and shall remain nameless who also didn't get his winterized soon enough and the freeze plugs didn't pop, instead his block cracked. When this happens, you have to rebuild the engine with a different block, big bucks. Lots of things can happen when water in an I/O engine freezes. Anything we can tell you will be pure speculation so I guess you will have to wait for a report from the expert who works on it.
