I need a new trolling motor battery for a Minn Kota 40lb thrust 12volt motor. My boat is a 16ft Gruman, alum. What are the best brand and size of battery to buy? Costs? and where can they be purchased?

Grass,

I have been using an Optima Deep Cycle Battery for 4 years. It is the size of a malt liquor six pack and has outperformed batteries twice its size. I have a Tuffy Esox Magnum and use a Minnkota PD50 trolling motor. The cost is (or was) amost double that of a conventional deep cycle battery, but it has more than paid for itself by its long lasting charge and multiple year life todate. It can be topped off without hurting the battery life, it can be mounted at any angle, it can be froze and thawed out, charged up and away you go! They are available at Batteries Plus stoes which are nearly a national chain now, otherwise checkout their website for vendor location. Good Luck!
