Hey there, long-time reader, infrequent poster here. I need some help. I primarily fly fish for Muskies while my wife will spin fish for smallies or pike or water logged sticks. Well, she finally stuck a nice Musky on a top water and now she's got the fever. I need to get her a legit bait-casting setup so she can throw the heavy stuff. But I don't know much about them, I've always used a fly rod or spin rod. I don't mind expensive and want good stuff but it doesn't necessarily have to be top-shelf. I'd like to start with one rod and reel that she can use as a 110 lb gal but I can pick up from time to time too. Thanks!

Our outfits have come a long way from when a lot of us old timers started. I would buy or least go somewhere were she can hold the rod and reel she's may want to buy. See what she likes then shop price. Today's rods are fairly light. I have rods up to Thorne Brothers $$$$ to a beautiful rod I found in the Cabela's bargain cave that 65 bucks then I had 30 bucks in points 35 bucks. So for 35 bucks it won't pull a double 10 or throw a pounder, but you can throw regular sized Bucktails, jerk a Suick or a 10 Jake reel in a Depth Raider or a top water. I have a Concept 13 reel A3 works great for a all around rig. This rig won't break the bank but a big fish won't break your rig. (I will handle any fish she may hook.)
