There is a DNR program in place on Leech lake they are requesting anglers to clip a fin on all muskies caught. Any fin will do as they will grow back but the Anal fin is prefered because it is the easiest. It is the fin onthe bottom of the fish closest to the tail.
They are doing this to do a population asseessment. Because the lake is so large traditional trap net methods are to much effort and to costly so the are asking angler to help. It was in place last year and only 350 clips where recovered. They need more data.Clip fin dry it.Drying is importantso it doesn't start to rot, PLace itin the little brown bag and putit in the collecter at boat ramps and resorts. The bags are also provide there. Fill out the form and asnswer the questions on the envolope.
All information is helpful. Help us gain knowledge on the mother of all stocking projects in Minnesota.
thanks

I started saving the little mesh bags that shallots come in. A good way to dry the clippings, two paper clips to attach the corresponding envelope with info noted. Most fish were easily clipped, a few made it quite difficult.
