| Went up to Hayward 08/05-08/12 and the weather was wacky. First few days were nice after that major front, seen a few sluggish fish on spinners, had some unfortunate luck with a leader that broke with a fish on, and then a 40"+ fish breaking my 65lb braid boatside(I'll never use power pro again, lesson learned). Managed to raise about 5 fish on a topwater though, and we had a few more on the spinners. The fish were just very sluggish. There was a front that came through mid week. It was rainy, windy and cold! Water temps were about 68 degrees in the morning and 72in late afternoon. We seen most of our fish on steep drop offs, when sitting in 9-11 feet of water. Weeds were not very good up there this year. Managed to boat a 40" muskie on the last day of the trip, got him on a topwater in the morning. |

Location: Twin Cities, MN | Yes, that was some wacky weather as I was in Hayward myself last week on the Big Chip. Like yourself, I did not find as many weeds as normal.
I managed to find a 41 inch hybrid that liked my ghosttail though, along with a 30 inch muskie and 31 inch northern for my meager efforts. As this was a family vacation, tubing took priority.
