Posts: 36 | I'm curious to know which musky clubs help in stocking efforts and how many fish they stock in each lake each year. Thanks

Posts: 2037 Location: lansing, il | The Hoosier Muskie Hunters chapter 42 put on the Indiana Muskie Classic each year and the money goes toward stocking the lakes. I am not sure how many get stocked but you could contact them. The Webster Lake Muskie Club also is responsible for stocking as well. http://www.indianamuskieclassic.com/

Posts: 325 Location: Otsego, MN | Capital Chapter of Muskies Inc... check out the website as I think they talk about how many they purchase every year and assist the DNR with the tagging and stocking.

Posts: 20227 Location: oswego, il | FRV and SOB stock muskies. Problem is in Illinois whatever we put in the DNR takes out so its a wash. All the Illinois M.I and non affiliated clubs along with the IMTT belong to the Illinois Musky Alliance which is a conduit to the DNR and their needs which often fall outside their budget. Just the pond nets the clubs through the ima have purchased alone has increased survival to 80-90%. That's alot of fish. That's just one effort, there are many many more. Posts: 1247 Location: On the Niagara River in Buffalo, NY | Then there is the Niagara Musky Association Inc. that has been active since 1993 in all muskie & conservation issues for the Niagara River & Lake Erie Area.No stocking, only natural reproduction! This is where habitat restoration is the path forward!

Posts: 455 | NJ chapter 22 pretty much started and maintained the entire N.J. fishery for years. Including maintaining a brood stock lake for Leech lakers. Once the state took over stocking they switched to buying bait and other efforts to assist the state.

Same deal for the Shawnee Muskie Hunters (Lake Kinkaid). We can't stock fish so we contribute to other efforts like the pond nets, equipment for the DNR crews.....new boat motor, new gas powered water pump, scales, etc...stuff they use for population surveys. Wish we could use our club money to help buy more fish.

The DNR told us at last weekends ima meeting that we contribute more than the other species clubs do. We back it up.

Posts: 243 | Boundary Waters Musky Club (U.P./NE WI) has also stocked area waters through cooperative agreements with the DNR. Last year, we stocked about 700 fish to the tune of about $8,000 with the help of some support funds from other clubs. I'd be careful about judging a club's efforts by stocking numbers alone though. Many clubs spend thousands of dollars annually on habitat improvement projects, participating in fyke net/electro-shocking surveys, buying food for juvenile muskies in rearing ponds, putting on fishing events for both adults and children, promoting catch and release ethics, etc. That doesn't include donations of countless hours of in kind labor and time spent working with the DNR and elected officials on management issues.

Posts: 255 Location: MadCity Wisconsin | To add to what Muskers said. Capital City Muskies Inc in Madison, Wis. Has stocked an average of around 550 Leech Lake Strain muskies, each year, in the Yahara Chain since 2006. Prior to 2006 CCMI was stocking around 500 muskies every other year dating back to the 1980s. We couldn't do this without the help of our generous club members and those who attend our meetings, seminars and muskie school. A big shout out to Blackhawk Muskie Club in Janesville, Wis. As stated by Magnum they give CCMI a nice check for stocking muskies nearly every year! Thanks guys! Edited by Steve Reinstra 5/8/2014 2:31 PM
