Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Sorry to tell you but no "best" color. But firetiger is always a good color anywhere you go. Also black rates right up there as well. In my book action trumps color. If you don't know how to work them even a "magic" color won't get you many hits as a good working "rotten" color.

Posts: 1270 | I also like firetiger and black but isn't it interesting that they are often recomended even though they are on complete opposite ends of the color spectrum? Do you think that a lot of time we WAY over think the color of a bait?

Posts: 682 Location: Sycamore, IL | I have the best luck on the original sucker pattern...if you want one bait for both clear and stained water I would go with a natural pattern like sucker or perch. That being said, I don't think there is a wrong choice. Have fun... Matt

Do you think that a lot of time we WAY over think the color of a bait? Coming form a musky company owner... Colors sell customers Hence my 1000+ SKUs and a 5000sq ft warehouse 90% full of 10' high pallets of lures. If I did not have 21-42 colors for each of the ~30 lines I carry I would be one happy person. IMO 6 core colors is all you really need and even 6 may be too many colors. I think a lot of what is missed is vibration vibration vibration. IMO many times the lure silhouette is even more important than the color. JMO James

I agree with muskie nut, a 'good running' jerkbait with no paint on it will beat one with great paint that doesn't have the same action most of the time. I paint lots of them (poorly, lol) and as long as they run right, fish hit them. Nighthawk, Purple Rage, Sucker, Firetiger, Orange belly/black top, solid black, perch, they all work. I think that's true for pretty well all lures. If its got the action, you're already rounding 3rd looking for home plate.

Posts: 432 Location: Eagan, MN | I like a color that I can see from a distance, especially if I'm working weeds. Other than that color doesn't seem to matter, maybe get a bright one and a natural one.

Location: Eastern Ontario | I used to be accused of buying every firetiger suick I saw to keep them out of the hands of others but they still work after all the paint has gone. Some of the waters I fish look like a putting green by Sept.
