Any one with experience with or knowledge of who makes the current Gander Mountain musky series rods? Was in the Eau Claire store the other week on my way to vermillion and they had a couple 9' heavy split grip models that felt nice. Didn't have the Big and Nasty or anything else similar there to compare it too directly, but at $150 price tag is easier to swallow.

I looked at GM rods on the way up north, and then bought Okuma. I didn't dislike the GM's, just liked the Okuma better.

I have not handled on eof the new split grips from Tackle Industries but they look real good. I know from friends that James stands behind his products. Could not tell you the price though without going to the website.

I have not seen the Musky rods from Gander, but the 2010 Gander Bass rods have had a LOT of guide ring failures, I've replaced a bunch. They split, crack and break out in 1/2's. Just FYI.....

I have one of the older series and really like it. I know they will hold up, my buddy caught a 51 on it.

I have one, the blank and guides are very good, but I have two problems with it.

#1, the hook keeper. On two occasions now I've managed to have the line get into the hook keeper, at which point it completely shreds the line. Not sure how it gets under there but it does. I now have tape on the hook keeper, and it will be one of the two things I get changed over the winter.

#2, the cork. My rear grip cork is really beat up after only a half season of use. The foregrip is fine, but I don't use it often. But again over the winter I will be having the rear grips replaced with better cork.

The Gander musky rods are made by Trophy Technologies. If you do have a problem with your rod or any Gander rod for that matter just bring it in to Gander. The musky rods have a 2 year no hassle warranty on them and they're really nice rods that definitely handle big fish. All of the walleye and bass rods are solid too and also come with great warranties.

They use Fuji Alconite guides just like a St. Croix does.

Zack,

Trust me, these guides on the bass rods were NOT Fuji Alconite's. The rings were not even black in color, more of a gunmetal color.

That's not the way it is anymore. You can return a rod within 90 days if you have a receipt but after the 90 days they won't do anything for you unless you bought their "summit protection plan".

That is correct you must purchase an extended warranty now...Or else they will not take it back unless it is less than 3 months old Amd you need the receipt.. I imagine we must have returned alot of damaged goods to them threwout the years and they finally said enough is enough.......good things don't always last....

Which series are you talking about? Gander has bass rods from $30 to $150.

I work there and the warranty is on all of the tags. All of the new Gander rods, it doesn't matter if they're spinning, or casting, or musky, come with some sort of warranty ranging from 1 to 5 years depending on the price.

I got a cheap $40 rod from Gander a couple of years ago and that cheapy is still one of my favorite rods. I have 2 of the cheaper St. Croix's, which I paid around $125 for when St.Croix actually let Gander have a sale. And I must say, the Gander rod is just as nice. I don't own any of the $300-400 rods so I can't compare to those. Anyways, if I were buying a rod today, I wouldn't hesitate to pick up either a Gander rod or a Tackle Industries rod. Whichever is more convenient for the buyer.

I've been using a Gander GSX 8'6" XHD for a couple months now. Great stick for throwing mag dawgs. Also have an 8'6" Tooth Tamer heavy that works very well for dbl 10's. Pricewise these are both well worth the affordable price.
