Posts: 102 | Lowrance has released the new update for the HDS units. This update is REQUIRED for anyone planning on using the Structurescan feature. It activates the structurescan features and includes some other adjustments. Here is the link for the update. http://www.lowrance.com/en/Downloads/Product-Software-Updates/ Edited by fireslayer 10/19/2009 10:35 AM

Got it tonight. Getting ready to go out and mount it. For the rest of this season I'm going to run my already-installed power and ducer cable, then over the winter install the new hardware, just for the sake of the upgrade.

Software upgrade will allow SI users to use downscan using original ducer. - am actually planning on picking up the HB 1155c which is just a 10" chartplotter for next years use and then the following year adding the 900 series on my console so that waypoints entered on the console will be networked to the 1155c at the bow. The 1155c can be found for under 900$ so that will be my first purchase.

Posts: 552 Location: WI | I'm planning on getting a new console unit next spring and I'm thinking about a HDS unit w/ structurescan if Lowrance gets it out by then. I've got a 522c up on the bow that I would want to network w/ the HDS, so my question is, can a 522c be networked w/ the HDS units? When I look on Cabela's website, the ethernet cable and expansion port do not say they fit the HDS units.

You will not get the HDS reading on the 522, so you won't be able to ethernet the two units and be able to read the HDS sonar off the 522. You will however be able to share waypoints within the network. The ethernet cable, which is the yellow cable has nothing to do with networking. The networking is for the gps part and being able to share gps info between two units. Any other questions, ask away.

Posts: 552 Location: WI | Thanks TJ. I'm new to the world of high tech sonars. I was just looking to share gps between the two at this point so thats good news.

Anyone been using the structure scan technology yet? How is it? Anyone have any comparisons to the Humminbird technology? I checked out an HDS 10 over the weekend and they're pretty slick. Anyone want to buy a 2 year old LCX-111???

Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | You'll be better off asking about the StructureScan on WalleyeFIRST, we have a lot of guys over there that have been using it for some time now and will be able to answer any questions or thoughts about the HDS you may have. http://walleye.outdoorsfirst.com/

Posts: 676 Location: Wisconsin | Here is a really good PDF on the HDS system and networking.....sorry for the long link. http://primus.lowrance.com/support/resultDisplay.do?docType=1002&co... For full waypoint sharing you need to have them ethernet connected. Tons of info here.....enjoy. Edited by Muskiemetal 2/23/2010 9:56 PM

Posts: 132 Location: MN | The other question I have is how will this help the muskie angler? I have seen a lot of the side imaging stuff, but what I have not figured out on this is, will you see a muskie laying in the weeds, or on an edge? It should be a large target. I realize that there are some limits to any technology, but it that possible?

Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | It might be possible you you could see a muskie, but the chances of that happening are not likely imo. I have seen images where the StructureScan caught balls of baitfish, that was cool. However, the main purpose for StructureScan is to learn rock bars, cribs, and other underwater structure. Here is a clip that is worth watching. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlO6naQL0m0 Edited by TJ DeVoe 2/27/2010 6:15 PM

Posts: 676 Location: Wisconsin | If anyone is running a HDS and want to use the new Navionics cards, you will need this update for the 2010 card. Found out after banging away at the four units I have here.... http://www.lowrance.com/Downloads/Product-Software-Updates/
