Hey nxtwrldrcd,
Looks like you may be infected also. I received an email from you that appeared to be a virus also. I didn't open the attachement because it appeared that it was suspecious...The email was entitled "April 18,2002" or something like that... I deleted it. I guess one thing good about a Mac(that's what I use at work and home) is that most viruses are written for PC. But I still have a Virus Software because you never-know when those dirty buggers will try to infect your system. I hope that you don't experience any down time!!!

catch ya later,
Krappie

Hmmm… Sorry guys, I also use Norton. I update automatically and scan every night. I’m pretty sure that I’m clean. These things are pretty amazing; maybe they’re jumping on board through my provider? Who knows? I’m glad I’m protected from damage (I think) Krappie, when did you get that e-mail? Maybe it was some ERC stuff, not sure if you put the connection together yet. I hope I wasn’t the one who crashed your system recently.

Hey Mike,
I know you didn't send me a virus that killed my computer because I believe it was my hard drive that went to Krap on Me. Anway I got two new 60 GB that have me rocking at 120 GB of storage!!! That's the positive thing that happened to my computer. I should be able to do some pretty awesome things for ERC in the near future. I may be helping Matt out with some projects that'll need that type of disk space.

Getting back to the file that was sent to me. It was sent today and I got a weird error on my computer when I opened the letter(I didn't open the attachment though). I thought it may have been a virus trying to attach itself onto my Mac, but failed because it doesn't recognize the language that the virus was written. I had to take the precautionary measure and delete the email. If it was something in relation to ERC feel free to send it to me again. I was just a little gun shy because of all the rash number of viruses that have been infintrating the web as of lately. It really sucks that those computer geeks make such destructive Krap that puts everyone in fear.

It's sounds like some folks have a anti-Virus software on their computers. And hopefully everyone is downloading the current virus definitions that will catch the new viruses, trojans and worms. Anti-Virus software is worth it's weight in gold when used properly. If you're a surfer of the net, or swap many files with other computers it's a must to have some type of Anti-Virus software. I may be preaching to the choir, but it's something that needs to be discussed and remedied to make the internet a good place to be.

catch ya guys later,
Krappie

Anyone ever hear of Macaffee? I think that is what we use...wifes' company uses it + it does an automatic scan I think...if anyone e-mails me I delete it automatically so as not to take a chance...how do you know if the e-mail is ok?[:(]

Luckily, aol keeps the e-mail on their server so only downloads can affect my computer. I still get alot of strange download e-mails but I delete them. I think I am going to have to wear protection just to check my mail and shower with a disinfectant.

Hmmm…this is weird. I was installing my new computer on the network today, (Got a 2.2ghz, 1GB of ram, and a 120GB hard drive, she’s going to scream) and when I was setting up my e-mail accounts I was without antivirus for a few hours. When I was testing everything I e-mailed myself a few times, I wonder if that’s how it “got out”, weird. I haven’t even transferred my address book yet. Or possibly it came from a completely different source. The message wasn’t ERC related then Krappie. Good thing you deleted. Funny how these installs never go a smooth as planned. There is always something that ****s ya. When in doubt use the buoy or is it BEUI. Here it is 8:00 at night and I’m just now starting to load my software.

I'm deleting about 10 emails a day since I updated my McAfee EVERYone has the Klem worm.

I just scanned again....

If you have Mcafee you need to go to the website and do a special scan for this virus. If you scan with the regular software it WILL NOT pick it up! www.mcafee.com

This virus (Klez32) will not be coming from the person that has the virus. Actually it will, but it inserts an email address from the affected person's address book in the FROM field, to make it look like it's coming from someone else. I actually received 2 emails from "myself" today that were infected, so someone out there that has my name in their address book has the virus, and it's sending it back to me with my address in the FROM field.

Wierd stuff...

I'm in the same boat as you guys. I strongly suggest everyone spend the money and update your virus scanning software. I had the Norton 2000 edition and never updated it. Whenever I would scan my files, it would tell me everything was clean. Well, when I started getting a bunch of strange e-mails - I bit the bullet and went to the Norton website and updated with the 2002 version. When I scanned my files with the new software, I had 12 files with viruses.

As new viruses come up, Norton (or other virus software) will find a way to detect it and offer upgrades to the software and you can get free downloads for a year after your purchase.

Looks like it is something to put on the yearly update list..............

since I got my sores I update the files everyday!

New virus comes out daily so do the fixes.

everything is now scanned on my computer.

Like Zach says...it may say it is from me, you or from George W. Bush but that doesn't mean it is.

My new computer has Mcafee, should I have to do any updates?

Jason,

If you haven't registered the software yet, click on the software and something should come up telling you to register. Once you register, you should automatically receive updates. I would be willing to bet that there have been numerous updates to the software from the time they originally loaded it onto the computer in production to the time it arrived at your home. Even though it seems new to you, there is a chance that they loaded the software to the hard drive several months ago.

Hey Guys running anti virus software is good but you also need to keep a clean house so to speak

1, Set up your anti virus software to run and update automatically
2, Delete all un-needed/unknown E-Mail
3, Delete all Cookies for sites that you have not visited recently or dont know what site they are for
4, Delete / cleanup contents in your "Temporary Internet Files & Downloaded Program Files" folders

My Norton cost me $35 a year and I have it set up to check for updates everyday at 6 pm, I am normaly home and puter is on at that time. Some days it gets updated and others none are there. The full virus scan is setup to run once a week to check my complete file list.

Never got a virus ever since I have been practicing safe puting. [:p]

I got a notification Friday from a friend's work server that I had sent him a file with the Klenz virus. I don't even have his work addy in my address book. At the same time, I got an E-mail with attachment, with subject about Spice girls and nothing in the body of the document. The dialog box came up immediately to ask me to open or save it to disk. I looked at the message properties, and it said it was infected by the Klenz virus. It was sent to me 20 seconds before I got the notification of the virus from my friend.

Here are the e-mail addresses that the properties list as the senders. [email protected], and [email protected]. I am not accusing here, but will try to send a note to these addys to inform them they may be infected, or are in somebodies address book that is infected.

I run Norton Antivirus, and update my definitions daily. I am resonably sure my puter is not infected. The Klenz virus is in the definitions list, so I am sure that if I, or my family members, would have opened the infected messages, it would have alerted.

If you received an infected e-mail that says it came from me, please realize that it is probably because I am in somebody's addy book along with you.

I think that when they catch anybody who authors these virus's, they should lock them up for a long time, and inject them with a good case of the clap for the duration!

Tight Lines,

Shep[:sun:]
