I am also sending Aaron (Musky Tackle On-Line) some Musky Blings, silicone skirted, with a 2 ounce head instead of the traditional 3 ounce head in a few days. They work excellent in shallow weeds and have the magical power of the double tens. They are triple-skirted and have a larger profile than standard spinnerbaits.
The Boo Blings have over one full ounce of marabou and look awesome in the water. They are a pain to make and every one takes 30 minutes to complete. I sent Aaron home with a handful of these after the Blaine show. He will get the remaining Boo Blings on Monday. If you have any questions you can e-mail me or Aaron.

Tested mine out yesterday and didn't know what to think of the action...does anyone else have this problem...The blades don't spin independently of each other like a cowgirl...they sping together and almost stop spinning for a minute thern spin stuck together again then don't spin then spin then don't spin...is it just my bait or is this how they are suppose to work

I remember the rainy night walking the dog talking to a good friend of mine, that has many years of making top quality spinners asking him if he could build me a spinner with Double 10's, he said it would not work due to several issues he mentioned that night, one of them the problem your talking about BP, but after 2 weeks he calls and says "You ain't gonna believe it I got it to work this thing is unbelievable", and the rest is history and he even gave me a point for the assist LOL.

BP, lets hope you didn't make too many of these double bladed baits. There is a world of difference between just trying to copy something out there and making a product that works beautifully every time, sometimes we fall upon things by accident but you can't beat experience. I am very careful where I spend my money on baits and go for experience every time MMspinnerbaits get my vote, built like tanks and 100% reliable.

Big Perc,
They do spin independently of each other just like an in-line spinner. That is the only way they can spin. If the short-arm is pushed too far in then it has trouble spinning try pulling it out some. That is the only thing that I can think of. Many hours of testing went into the making of my baits. I experimented with diferent arm lengths, weight of heads, hooks, skirting and so on. They have also been tank tested at almost every musky show for the audience to see. I will pm you for more information on the problem.
Chico, if you look at my baits they are quite a bit different than MM's (head design, skirting material, wire, etc.) The only simiarity is the way the blades are set up. I have made alot, sold hundreds, tested almost as many, and caught 50in fish on them. So if you think that I am making exact copies of someone else's bait I am not.
Kevin

Kevin's spinnerbaits are built like a tank. I honestly have not seen a spinnerbait that I feel could take more abuse than these things. Can't wait to try a few in 2007. They have big fish written all over them!

I bought a musky bling from Kevin Cochran at the Extreme Muskie Expo in Medina, Minnesota...I have no where near the talent or time to build a spinnerbait...his baits are extremely well built I just think the problem is the arm is bent in too far...I'll go look and post a picture of it...

You are correct Big Perc. The bend in front of the top bead is bent too far in. It will not spin correctly if it is bent that far. I think a few of these went out during the shows. It is an easy fix. All you have to do is bend it out more with your fingers. I will have MuskyTrap include a pic of one that is bent correctly so you get an idea. It will run flawlessly then.

Guest....what's your point???
Wow, Yes...I'm sure Mr. Cochran's baits were influenced by one or many baits which are similar to it, as are 99% of all baits used today. However, this bait is not a copy of another bait. If you believe so, find the same exact bait and then you'll prove your point.
If you're worried about the reputation of this style of spinnerbait, well I think you need to read the comments above which all, but one, say that these baits are great and will catch fish. Being tank-tested at all the shows, I'm sure people wouldn't have boughten them if they saw the bait didn't work right...however, that doesn't seem to be the case.
And even if these baits didn't work well (which I'm sure is not true), do you not think there's other spinnerbaits out there that don't work of this "style"??? The reputation of double-bladed baits would surely not be ruined because of one lure.
I would love to be able to make a lure of similar quality to Mr. Cochran's. I appreciate what he, and all the other "basement builders", do and the time they put into these lures.
By the way, I believe I will be purchasing one of these in the near future....soon as my musky-budget is a little higher. (That would be anytime I actually have some money).

KC, hey thanks for the pm, back at you.

This style of bait is very easy to get wrong, double #10's do not just work automatically. A builders rep is based on baits that work and if they don't work straight out the box it is only one persons fault.

I'm really not offended by someone copying a style of bait I've designed. I've been around long enough to realize that if you don't get copied you might even have a problem with anglers understanding the purpose of the bait. I also don't mind helping someone out if they need it, especially another Muskie fisherman, even if they are not forthcoming in their true goals. It's getting to be a tougher and tougher game out there to make a living at no doubt.
Where I do draw the line however is if a person doesn't understand some fundamental things about the function of the design and then aggressively puts together 100s of baits and hits every sports show on the circuit. Whether they intended it or not they and their bait become the defining name for this style and if there are problems that haven't been worked out the entire style will suffer. Muskie fishermen are notorious for being unforgiving when it comes to function and rightly so. But you can't control what other people do, just be aware that others can suffer the consequences.

As I said before, some of my baits went out with too much of a bend above the first bead. Easy fix, just straighten the bend out some with your fingers. Not too difficult. I do understand the principles behind the blades and the relation to the bait. If there is too much of a bend above the blades then they will have trouble spinning.
Chico and Steve if you want to talk about this any further you can e-mail me or pm me. [email protected]

Kevin admitted to having some that went out at the shows with too much of a bend in the arm. I have 9 Musky Blings and of those 9 I had to gently adjust one with my fingers as Kevin stated. After looking at it you could tell that it wasn't bent exactly the others. This can be done in about 3 seconds. It is a small problem that is relatively easy to fix. I am sure that Kevin will stand behind anything he makes.
He has caught some big fish on them last year and would not make something that he thought wouldn't work.
If your blades dont run "just like a cowgirl" make the minor arm adjustmement. It is SUPER easy.just bend the arm away from the hooks a little bit. Give them a shot this year Big Perc.. you'll be happy when a monster fish crushes it boat side!!
