Muskie Fishing -> General Discussion -> "Do Muskies amuse themselves..............?"

Jim McCormick said something in a post that started me thinking- "Do Muskies amuse themselves?" I think Jim's on to something.[:praise:]

Can we equate Muskie psychology to another creature we all understand or perhaps don't? I see a lot of parallels in behavioral patterns. I think Muskies are the freshwater fish version of a feline persuasion. Maybe "tiger" is not that far off- they are the top predator in their food chain (fisherman don't count)

seriously think about it- I became hooked on Muskies because of the way they acted-> fish w/ an attitude. Now when I think about it, they really behave similar to cats!

They'll chase things attached to strings.
They sun themselves on rocky reef's.
They will sit & stare at an object of interest and then pounce or sometimes they'll just quitely appear & disappear.

I know, I should'nt have taken the Sponge Bob short course in animal behavioral psychology- all he'd let us listen to in class was Burl Ives. "Froggie went a courtin'" is still bouncing around in my brain![;)]

Have you seen any other simile's between Muskies & cats??[8)]

I gotta go get ready to tangle w/some freshwater tigers

You, go to church right now and beg forgiveness that you would dare to compare a muskie to something as low as a cat!
I love cats...dead ones.
There are NO similarities between the two. I don`t get an urge to pick up a gun every time that I see a muskie.
I`ve never seen a muskie on an old ladys lap while shes weaving across three lanes of traffic.
Well, now that I think of it, they do share one charachteristic.....you`ll never see one in my house unless it`s dead and hanging over my fireplace.[]

Beaver- Know what you mean-> so many cats- so few receipes!!! Didn't want to offend the Muskie god's- just a moment of delirium & unclean thought patterns.[:knockout:] My apologies, I believe fundamental problem comes from reading Sponge Bob's poetry. Well also maybe a little to much exposure to FZ- "Dinah Mo Hum"[]

Call your cat and it will go the other way. Wear a dark suit, and if the cat is white, it will suddenly love rubbing on you. Two hundred and ten times in the cat pan, next time under the couch.(You figure THAT out!)

Cats are 'land' Muskies.

Seriously, no way are the two in even remotely the same class as far as intellect.

Cats have a better developed mammalian brain, not limited to a stem and cerebral node.

SO; a cat is about as bright as a fence post.

A muskie is about as 'smart' as a box of stones....

Both or either will bite you ( or refuse to bite you) for no reason. Neither is predictable in the slightest. Goes to show what a better developed intellect will do for a cat. I have one. It showed up at my house 14 years ago, moved in, and has owned the place since.

There are other similartities as well. For instance they both use a litter box. Muskies will arch their back and hiss at you. They carry their young by the back of their head. People will come to your house and take a smell and say "wow you have a musky." Muskies love crankbaits filled with catnip. Dogs like to chase musky. Musky allergies are quite common. Is it bad luck when a black musky crosses the road in front of you?[]

Maniac, not possible in my opinion. Forget you even wondered about it.

If you want to contemplate something, try these:

The crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe.

You should never smoke your pajamas, you might start a fire and burn your face.

If a cat crawled up in the oven + had kittens, would you call them biscuits? [:sun:]

Cats do multiply like rabbits, and muskies do not. Explain that one?

I can release a muskies and cats without a problem, but I can only release cats near highways.[]

If only Cory Painter would be willing to share his wealth of knowledge of techniques, maybe then we could figure those muskies out.[]

But if all the muskies die off, I will be happy to use 6/0 hooks on yarn balls to catch some kittys.

LOL everyone[] I'm putting on my firemens jacket right now....there we go. I'm actually playing fetch with my cats right now[:p]. I see a ton of attack characteristics between my cats and muskies. At times they'll both hide and make lighting strikes. Sometimes they'll just chase what they're after w/o any intentions of attacking. They'll do one thing all day long and do something completely different the next day. And yes, they take great pride in the ability to piss me off!

I think that it's more a compairison between preditors then a muskie/cat behavior relationship. You could probably find paralles with other species in the animal world

here muskie. muskie, muskie....

Sunday morning hangovers are a killer on spelling[:knockout:]

Don't know what happened to the first one, so we'll try again...

Do muskies amuse themselves? I've seen them stealing issues of Playboy out of tackle boxes.

And Sponge...I own the "101 uses" book. It ranks right up there with "Graffiti in the Big Ten."

Hi, me again. The question is, do Muskies amuse themselves?
Let me tell you this story and then you decide.

While fishing on a local Muskie lake in the fall several years ago, I was having a tough day with little to show for all the casting I had done. I happened to glance toward shore and notice a Squirrel trying to reach an acorn that was on a rock at the edge of the water. This Squirrel was at the end of a limb and every time it reached for the nut it's tail would dip slightly into the water creating a small ripple. I was just about to leave this spot when a large Muskie swirled up and took the Squirrel off that limb!
I started to get busy trying to find a natural colored Squirrel meeps that I have. I glanced back at the spot where I had seen the Muskie. Only to see this very largefish slide another acorn up onto that rock. Very amusing, don't you think?
