Posts: 1764 Location: Ogden, Ut | I wanted to jot a note recognizing those who have made this site what it is. As you may know, Utah has recently established a new tiger muskie record at 31 lbs. 11 oz. Well, that seems to have stirred up some interest in fishing for them out here. A local sports show on our NBC affiliate wanted to do a story on fishing for them, so the DWR sent me out to 'show them the ropes'. Normally, I am a bit hesitant to draw attention to something like this - it tends to draw a lot of wholly unprepared people to the fishery. But I figured it was a good opportunity to get the message out about expectations (realistic and otherwise), adequate gear, proper handling, release tools, etc. So I decided to give it a shot. Well, this morning turned out to be the moment of truth; we met at the ramp at 5:30 and proceeded to some likely spots. After a couple of hours of casting and small talk, the host was getting visibly nervous; quite worried about getting a fish on film, after all, footage of casting is rather dull for the average viewer  ! So thinking back to the post about spinnerbaits, I proceeded to make use of the knowledge I recently gleaned here. Anyway, one of my tigers volunteered for stardom at precisely 8AM; it wasn't a giant at 37", but one in the net is always good. I love it when a plan comes together. Posts: 1764 Location: Ogden, Ut | Thanks for the kudos folks, but I need to clear something up...the muskie program here is WAAAAAY more than just me. I'm pretty much the conduit of info to the outside world (hehehe), but there's a lot of hard working individuals involved. They include regional biologists, managers, hatchery personnel, hatchery truck drivers (very very important and severly underpaid people, btw), and yes, even administrators. Muskies are a very small part of the Aquatic resource in Utah; I have just kind of taken it upon myself to promote it as best that I can. They way I see it, if it's popular and successful, it's tougher to get rid of S. It's hard to be an Esocid guy in the land of trout... | ||

Better question... Did you get all amped in front of the camera and cast a pacemaker 50 yards on shore? or set the hook on a weed/fish and hook the camera man in the leg? hahahaha 50 yards? it couldn't have been more than 35...(see why I can relate to Hulbert's chew puke dance - I didn't even have a fish!)
