Posts: 750 Location: Minneapolis, MN | So last fall I purchased a depth raider and a shallow raider. Yesterday I decided I'd give the shallow raider a try and when I opened the case I kept both baits in, this is what I found. Is this normal? I assume at this point the lures might as well be trashed? Note, the pictures aren't showing atm, you can still see them by clicking the attachments. Attachments ---------------- depth.jpeg (155KB - 739 downloads) shallow.jpeg (140KB - 631 downloads)

Posts: 1283 | Ouch looks like they were left in the sun. I also purchased both those last year and so far so good.

Posts: 1360 Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | It might be in your benefit to go out and cast em anyway. You never know, maybe that little bit of difference in how it runs will be the difference in catching or not. I'm sure that this seems far fetched and out there. But think of it this way, pretty baits catch fisherman. Ugly baits catch fish. Not that I necessarily believe that. But there is something to be said about something that doesn't run quite "right" sometimes that is the difference that makes a difference. But if you would like to throw them away, ill take em off your hands and cast em for awhile. But If I catch something you're totally gunna get an ... "I told you so"

Posts: 750 Location: Minneapolis, MN | If it was just paint flaking off I wouldn't be as concerned, but at this point I'm more worried about the structural integrity of the baits. The shallow raider is warped.

Lol While I agree its unacceptable, I have seen entire boxes of lures destroyed from the sun. I have the same baits and both still have paint and spent a lot of time in the water and on the deck in a Just in case and are fine. Those are messed up and should be returned.

Posts: 501 Location: Norway | Ive had a bait from another mfg swelling up, it still fishes fine (I dont remember who, so I wouldnt name drop the wrong company). I am also sure its because of the sun. I usually cover up my baitboxes with my slime towel. Lot of the handmade lures will also get messed up if its directly in sun light, on those superwarm days. Michael

Posts: 304 Location: Lino Lakes, MN | I have had it happen to Jakes and Believers. The Believer is the bait that has IT. Caught a 50.5" on WBL years ago. It walks all over the place trolling. thinking of putting some others out in the sun Good Luck Steve I do not believe that it is a manufacturers problem once you buy a bait and it leaves the store and is left in a sealed box in the sun. That is exactly how my baits got damaged. Plano box on the deck of the boat sealed up tight.

Posts: 11 | Happened to me with a Top Raider and a Believer last year. Contacted Bucher and got a response with their warranty information. All it said was they have a one year warranty from purchase with receipt. Didn't bother contacting Drifter. Also had it happen with a couple of bass baits - seems they don't like being left in closed Plano boxes in direct sunlight. Not impressed but it's not like it's just one manufacturer's issue.

Posts: 1059 Location: Medford, WI | I've had it happen with depthraiders as well. One of them is probably my favorite depthraider (because it runs a bit different now). However, before you cast them, I would just make sure the the hooks are in place well - wouldn't want to risk hooking a musky and then have it tear out a hook, leaving it in the fish. -Jake

Posts: 69 | I've had that happen with a shallow raider and a topraider. It didn't negatively affect either bait (except the looks), and I actually like the shallow raider more now because of the extra little "kick" it gave it when twitched.

Posts: 151 Location: Chippewa Falls, WI | My father had a shallow invader swell up from being left in he sun and the first day he threw it he caught a fat 45" on LOTW. It's not just a bucher thing but as stated if you feel the integrity of the bait is compromised then don't use it. If its structurally ok I'd throw it and see how it runs... adubs

Posts: 15 | Had that happen to a Grandma once. My fault, left it in sun sealed up in the box. It still works well. I knocked a lip off of a Shallow Raider ripping it into some rocks last season. I sent it back to Bucher Outdoors and they replaced it for free. Their customer service was good, try starting with their website.
