Posts: 1202 Location: Money, PA | Well, I have been trying to develop something that the casters and trollers can take full advantage of equally in shallower water applications. After a good deal of testing and tweaking, I feel I have come up with a pretty neat working bait. Much shallower running than the Lil Hammer, although I have not yet developed a dive chart, I will be very soon. Along with a video of this things wild action. Last weekend, I ran this one in 7' with 25' of line out doing 4.5 mph and it didn't hit bottom at all or pop the surface. The best way to describe the action would be a "zig zag" back and forth action. The path is probably a foot to foot and a half wide along with the Hammer tell tale roll. And casters are going to love it....a steady retrieve produces the same wild action and twitching and jerking this thing is pretty erratic. The only thing I want to experiment with next is the weighting which will eventually be more of a suspending bait, keeping it "In the Zone". Not yet available but will be soon!

Posts: 532 | How many of those did you make and test run? I am curious to see if the action your describing is repeatable. I have had cranks baits I made years back do what i believe your describing, i never gave those baits enough attation to try to repeat the same action. I always thought those baits were in a grey area between running and not running. You were trying for a shallow diving crank or was this result intended? It would be neat if you can get them to run consistantly the way you described. As always top notch looking paint Edited by anzomcik 5/7/2014 8:23 AM

Nice looking bait Paul! If you have a repeatable process you have repeatable results, quality control that confirms the critical differences assures this. There are outside variables that are not controlled by the manufacturer, for example: leader, line, water temp that can slightly affect one lure’s action to another, but if all is equal repeatability is not a mystery Edited by MRichardson 5/7/2014 10:40 AM

Posts: 1202 Location: Money, PA | You guys bring up some great points and I have been thinking exactly the same things. The testing that I did was with various lip angles, lips and lure sizes....further testing certainly will be needed with this one design to ensure consistency for market...I am in the process of making a good handful of these for further testing....The lip was actually hand made so I have to make more of those as well. However, I am pretty confident that I can repeat the same process as MR stated...only time will tell.... Also I will say, I feel this bait's optimum effective trolling speed will be right around 4 mph or less...Designed primarily for spring trolling in shallow water and casting/twitching; Not saying it won't work in other scenarios/applications. Thanks guys Edited by ShutUpNFish 5/7/2014 11:35 AM

Posts: 1202 Location: Money, PA | Well, I am awaiting lips from my supplier so that I can make up a bunch for testing....Thus far, I made two baits with the same specs and the results very very similar....I had my son shoot a video, but it is kind of hard to see, however, you can watch the lure flash from side to side...I'm going to try to post it later if I could ever figure it out...

Posts: 1202 Location: Money, PA | Okay, its very hard to see, but if you look to the left middle of the screen you can see the flashing back and forth. I am going to make a pearl colored one so that the lure can be seen a lot better. This was taken by my son trolling 4.5 mph I will post more results as more testing occurs...Thanks! Also, the dive I got from the lure was 35' of Power Pro 80lb out and the lure was bumping bottom at 6.5' of water. And you really have to watch running these on the boat rods if running multiple lines....REALLY have to stagger line lengths or it will get over and tangle other lines...Its a walker/wanderer! I personally think 40+ feet out on an inline will be the ticket! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsW59-Iph4c Edited by ShutUpNFish 5/12/2014 7:44 AM

Posts: 910 Location: South-Central VA | Paul, I can definitely see the 'wander' you're talking about in the video. That thing has some killer action! Incidentally, white/pearl is one of my favorite colors... jeremy
