Posts: 483 Location: NE PA | hey all, I've booked a trip for the end of march with Tony Grant at the cave. I wanted to hear thoughts on baits and colors that work well early season at the cave. I already have the rattle bait portion taken care of, but what other baits are necessities in your box for this time of year. I have a decent selection of lures but am guessing that the early season will require me to downsize.. small cranks, clothes pin spinners, ect.. PM me if you would like and thanks in advance.

Posts: 427 Location: Planet Meltdown | I'll be fishing with Tony the first weekend of March. Hopefully the weather corporates. I plan on picking Tony's brain as well bit I'm pretty sure he will have everything you need to put some fish in the boat. This will be my first trip to Cave Run and I'm stoked!

I'm going the last week of March. This will be my first trip as well. I am going to fish with tony the first 2 days and spend the following 5 days without a guide. I normally don't get cabin fever that bad because I can fish the river most of the winter However it has either been iced up or a muddy mess for nearly 2 months now and I am anxious to get out and wet a line.

Posts: 230 Location: St Paul, Minnesota | Me and my father did pretty well last Spring on Cave Run by jigging Bondy Baits down along the flooded trees that you'll see sticking out of the water in 15-20+ feet of water. You'll need some form of lure retrieval system as your lure can get stuck in the submerged tree branches and the webs of crappie line. It takes patience and you might even feel dumb at first if you've never tried it, but it's a unique and ideal situation to test your jigging skills and there will be good fish holding tight to those trees.
