I accidentally bought the 7.5" replacement tails and need the 6". Does anyone have any that they can compare to see if I indeed need to go back to Thorne Bros. and return the 7.5, or can I use the ones I have for my 6" phantoms?

Thank you,
Steve

You should be able to make them work.I used a kalins mogambo tail and just cut the body down a little on the mogambo. It's a little larger than the original tail but looks great and didn't affect the action of the lure at all. Russ

Here's a couple of comparisons. I cut the bodies off Mogambos and Live Action grubs before Phantom started selling the replacement tails, too. I think the big tails will work on a 6".

What kinda glue do you use to stick them back on with?

I use super glue gel. I know other people use Gorilla Glue. I've tried epoxy already, but that didn't work at all. You can also get glue from Phantom, but I've never tried it.

Yeah I tried the gorilla glue and my tail came off after fishing with it for a couple of days, I will try the crazy glue. Thanks

Steve,
I do not know what's in the back of the Phantom where the tail is attached (a cavity, a nail, etc.) but I'd make a small change if it were possible: installing a spring or an anchor wall (the smallest size on the market).
This would make it very easy to change the tail

i personally like the 6" mogombos better on phantoms, I just cut or bite off the head down to 2 "rings" before the tail starts...better action and profile imo.
i use super glue i get off ebay....10 little things of it for like 5 bux

Another vote for super glue, I also tried a form of epoxy with poor results, super glue held great.

I think SuperGlue "melts" into plastisol a little and also really adheres to most hard plastics. Sounds funny but mix just a little cigarette ash in with the SuperGlue and it works even better.

I used to use regular super glue, but this is by far the best glue I have found for gluing my soft plastics onto squirkos/phantoms, etc. One drop and it is almost instantaneously stuck. Work quickly, and do not get it on your fingers unless you want to walk around with a phantom stuck to it at work the next day.

I searched for this topic in the archives because I have yet to find a super glue that holds my replacement tails. I've tried Gorilla, Crazy, and a generic brand but nothing seems to work. The tails fall off after a day or two of use. I tried roughing up the needle and the back of the bait too - that didn't make a difference either. Thanks for the suggestion Reef Hawg, I'll try it!

I used the glue from Phantom and it worked perfectly for me. Tails stay on as good as ever. Hadn't really looked at other options and just bought it when I was buying the replacement tails. Might try the bigger tails sometime to mix it up a bit.

You guys must have that "good" super glue cause that never works on phantom tails for me. I use the phantom tail glue with good results. Mogambo tails will definitely affect the action on the 6", not so bad on the 7 1/2" er.

The Phantom Glue works well, as does the Pro's Soft Bait Glue mentioned above by Reef Hawg. I've found that the Pro's Soft Bait Glue dries quickest and gets you back to fishing in no time.

You don't need the smaller tails....I actually purposely put the bigger tails for the 7.5" on the 6" bait. It certainly doesn't hinder it whatsoever and it might even help and work a bit better

Go to a hobby shop and get a medium to thick CA glue. It is superglue but the stuff from the hobby shop is much better quality. CA stands for cyano acrylate.
