At the recent Tri-Esox show Hamernick and I were boothed across the isle from John of Stealth Tackle. We had several people come over and say hi after they had visited the Stealth booth. When chatting with them and looking at some of the leaders they had bought, most of them didn't buy any of the weighted models. I thought this was strange due to the success I had with them. I had figured oodles of people had to find the same positives I did by using this great tool.

Just curious how many folks had noticeable success with these heavy leaders. I felt a serious advantage when tying one of these on, especially when others were scratching their heads.

Just FYI these weighted models are incredible! They are responsible for putting many of the giants in my boat when going got tough in 2010. A 1oz weighted stealth leader with a Musky Buster Bulger Boo or Rabid Squirrel on the other end was a killer combo.
Those lazy MN and LOTW wagons couldn't resist!

Have you tried them on a non-weighted jerkbait? I wonder how they would effect the action. I will need to pickup a few and try them (might not work on the jerks, but sounds like a good idea for bucktails). The sad thing is, I was at John's booth and bought a few things and never even saw these leaders.

I'm with you Jerry, these weighted leaders definatley work and help put more fish in the boat. I didn't throw them on my jerk baits, but I know guys that do and love them. I really like them on my bucktails and with some of the large rubber baits in certain situations. I use the 1 oz leader and John will be making me some 1.5 and 2 oz ones for the 2011 season as well. Another great product from Stealth Tackle.

I helped John develop these leaders in 2009. I mainly wanted them for Suicks
But quickly found out they are great on lots of other baits. I like the 3/4 oz on 10" weighted suicks it realy helps keep them in the strike zone longer and I use the 1oz on suicks after turnover to really get them down where the fish are. The leaders give lots of jerkbaits better action in my opinion. They can be used on Suicks Bobbies foolers or any other chop style jerkbaits.
Another place they are great is on bull dawgs and medussas they get the rubber down where it needs to be and gives alot more erratic action on the jerks.
They also work well on bucktails for those deep or suspended fish.
I will be teaching several classes at the Capital city chapter of muskies inc 2011 Muskie school March 19th at the Waunakee Highschool. One is a 1 hour poolside demo. Bill Beuchner and I will be showing how to use lots of baits and will be doing a 15 min segment on the weighted leaders.
If you have not tried these leaders yet you need to they helped put alot of fish in my boat for myself and clients.
Thanks,
Jeff Hanson

Commercial during the game - Time to reply. I used them a bit on the unweighted Intimidators. They definitely help them get down a bit, and also foul less on the cast. Also, windy day casting is now a breeze especially when throwing light baits - Oh second quarter starting! C'mon Bears pick it up!

Are the leaders shown in the photo above solid wire?

Jeff; are you using those leaders on a Suick with a solid or flexible (fluro) leader?

Thanks guys! Jerry your stories from last year really showed what a difference they can make. Jeff, to say you helped with the development is an understatement. No way I could have gotten them done without your help. It also helped that you were putting alot of nice fish on them right out of the box while we were getting them dialed in.

They are built on 240# solid wire. available in 1/2, 3/4 and 1oz. and i will have them on hand at the Michigan, Milwaukee and Ohio shows. If I can make it up to Minnesota ill have them there as well.

I always run my Suicks on Solid wire. If I am fishing super shallow I won't use the weighted leader. I use Stealth's straight solid wire leaders. In my opinion most Jerkbaits you get better action with wire. Early season I use the 1/2oz weighted one and progress to the heavier ones as the summer goes on and the fish move deeper.

Kirk - 1/24/2011 11:29 AM Jeff, Do you know if anyone will have these leaders at the Madison show?

They're available at Dorn on Sherman Ave in Madison.  At least they were this past fall.

Kirk,
Dorn's Midvale has these leaders in stock and they had them at the show last year. You can call them and ask if they are bringing them again.
Thanks,

How would these weighted lures work for Trolling DCG's and supers?

Stealth makes a safety pin style trolling leader that is weighted for trolling inline bucktails. I make my own and very the weight on them depending on how fast I am trolling, how much pull the blades have and how deep I want the lure to run. The safety pin style locks the inline bucktail in place and prevents it from spinning round and round essentially not working at that point.

The Stealth trolliing rig referenced is his trolling keel weight and should be a popular item for those looking to troll bucktails. Just snap it on and you're ready to go.

I think the weighted wire leaders talked about here are still a relative unknown out there. But like Jerry mentioned above, those I know that have used them have had some very good results. I'm sure they'll continuue to catch on with more and more anglers.
