| What is the longest time that you have gone without a legal in the boat?
Unfortunately, I am in my longest no-legal streak in many years. It has been since last July 30th that I have caught a legal muskie. Granted, I am limited to weekend fishing when I pursue muskie, but my totals have gone downhill over the last few years.
Also, any thoughts of why catch totals are declining? |

| 364 days! Last year on June 1st, I caught a 32". I didn't put another legal muskie in the boat until this year on May 31. It was 42". I only caught two other muskies in that time period. Both of them in May of this year (28", ~13")
I only fished about 15 times!! That's 150+ hours without a legal muskie. |

| I will consider myself more fortunate than I would have believed. I am lucky enough to live in great Muskie country. Dere Lake, Bone Lake, Apple River, Cedar Lake toname a few. Not to many trully trophy sized fish but a lot of fish in the 35" to 45" class. One can actually expect to catch one or two in a days outing any time. More on a good day. We don't, unfortunatly, all live in such proximity to this number of fish. All I can say is come to my small part of the Muskie world and I will help you break those fishless streaks if I can. |

| Must admit that there have been several drought periods over the years, some which lasted more than a single season. Some of those periods were due to where I was living at the time with limited or non-existent musky fishing opportunities (e.g, the 2 years I lived in Australia and couldn't fish for them at all - or the period of time I lived in Sponge Bob's part of the country and only had very limited opportunities). But the absolute worst drought would have to be when I first started musky fishing. My first musky trip was in 1966 to Chautauqua Lake in New York where I boated a 34-1/2" legal fish. Nothing to this musky fishing or so I thought. I didn't fish for muskies again until 1968 when I moved to Lexinton, Ohio nearly on the shores of Clear Fork Reservoir. I caught the musky bug there and fished for them almost exclusively at every opportunity until boating my next lunge in 1971. Three seasons!! I had follows and blowups from time to time while I attempted to figure this musky hunting thing out, but I never had another ski hooked until landing a 43" Tiger and ended up in third place of an annual musky derby held there at that time. Over that three year period, I fished Clearfork hard from ice-out to ice-up at every opportunity - all to no avail as far as hooking or landing any muskies were concerned, but the fever never eased. In fact, it only became more intense and I vowed I would stick to it come He## or High Water. If we would have had message boards such as Muskiefirst and publications like Musky Hunter back then, perhaps I would have boated my second musky in a lot less time - I definitely would have become a much better musky angler in a lot less time that's for sure. I guess one could say, "I earned my musky hunting knowledge the old fashioned way.....I earned it!" And I'm certaijnly glad I did, as I'm still at it all these years later and have managed to boat many a mighty musky since....[;)]
And my next one is going to be my largest yet!!...[:p]
Hope all of you get your largest yet too...
Mike

| This question should read how many hours not days. There is a few guys on my pond that pound every day and there is the weekend boys that are out there when the lake is a zoo. One guy that pounds every day only caught 1 fish in the whole week he fished, take that and break it down into hours fished and this will add up to over a month of the weekend fishermans time spent on the water. Bottom line is TIME ON THE WATER catches fish. I have had some long hours between fish but not as of late. Keep pounding and your fish will come, remember confidence will help put fish in your boat. |

| muskyone, are you in wisconsin? i want to take out a couple days in late august or early september to go up there and fish a bit. |
|

|
| For me its been three years and counting. I caught my first muskie, which was a sub legal though the other day. |
|

|
| Legal is relative. In illinois most lakes are 48" so that's a legal fish. I did not catch a legal untill late september of last year when I boated a 34" fish on silver which was legal. Although I completely blanked from july 4th untill the second week of september.[:knockout:] |

| My longeswt drought was 3 years, but in all fairness, i only fished 2-3 times a year for them. Now, i pretty fish for them hard and i probably average a legal for every 15-18 hrs. But, like everyone else I still get skunked. |

| last season due to the hot weather (even in rivers water temps were over 23°C) I had 8 fishless days in a row. |
