I love the suzy sucker I think it is one of the best built rubber/soft plastics made

however I have both the 11 and 13 inch "paddle" tail models and in the last couple weeks Im seeing that the paddle tail about 50% of the time dosent activate or work or tends to quit,,Yes,,Ive tried jump stating them with jerks and pulls but this dosent work all the time either.

anybody else notice this or have found a way to tweek this

Im wondering if this is just due to coldwater temps below 50 degrees maybe the rubber gets more stiff during the cold temps????

I only have two of the 13 inchers with paddle tails and they have worked for me consistently in all temperatures. Believe me, I test a lot of swimbaits. I have yet to find anything inconsistent with my 13" Suzy Suckers. I don't have the 11 incher so I can not comment but the 13 inchers are all around good baits and solid from a technical point of view IMO. On a tweaking note, I have added a magnum rattle to one of the tails. Small hole cleaned with alcohol and used epoxy to cement it in. Works great and lets out a rattle with every paddle. That modification did not seem to hinder or accelerate the movement of the tail vs the non-modified 13" Sucker either in all temperatures.

I picked up the 11 inch version about two weeks ago...totally noticed the same thing. The smaller versions work great...reel them in slowly and the tail kicks like no other. But my 11 inch version you really have to burn it in to get the tail to do anything. Reel it in slowly and...nada.

I have noticed the same thing on the 11", we give it a pull or a couple of quick turns of the handle to "get it going"

I too have the same with a couple of 11 inch models I picked up this weekend not working at slower speeds. The plastisol seems to be different. The 13 inch models I have and 9 inch swim fine along with all of the other baits I have got from Andy. I will e-mail him and bring this to his attention

Unfortunately the plastic on some of these baits was a little too hard and this is what the problem is. It’s a fine line between making soft plastic baits with lots of action that will last. I have softened the plastic just a tiny bit now to make sure this sort of thing does not happen. You can either send the baits back to me for replacement of if you take a craft knife and trim the tail root on both sides (make it thinner for about an inch+ from the paddle tail.) this will solve the problem.

Sorry about this.

I don't suppose you have a picture of a properly trimmed 11" suzy tail? Do you trim the top too? How thin should you go? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to get my 11" as active as my 9s and 13s.

Here is a before and after shot of the tail. Just trim a section off the top of the tail root so that the tail has more flex. This will not compromise the over all strength of the lure because the plastic is harder and a little tougher. I might have trimmed a little too much, but this should give you an idea on how to do it. Hope this helps; any questions please email me [email protected]

Andy, are you going to be at the Chicago muskie show? If so, can we swap for the newer models? I have 2 11"ers that I bought from Rollie and Helens the day they arrived, and both have tail wagging issues.

Thanks,

Dave

I have found another way is to drill small holes in that same area. Just experiment and you will find what works.

Looks good when your done compared to trimming.
