Posts: 1207 Location: Pigeon Forge TN. | I know this is a fishing board but things like this effect us all. Our very small Community of Jamestown, Pa. suffered our first K.I.A. in Irag Staurday when 25 year old Staff Sgt. David Veverka died from injuries recieved when an IED destroyed the vehicle he was riding in. He had only been deployed to Irag for two months. The family is recieving his remains at Pittsburgh Airport at 1:00 today and the whole Community will be lining the streets as the police escort passes through town to the funeral home. Militarty Honors will prevail. My heart to he and his family and further to all the families whom have lost loved ones for the same reason.

Posts: 1245 Location: Madtown, WI | I was fortunate enough to go visit my brother who today went back to Iraq after his two week leave. Reading this made my heart drop. Those men and women are giving up a lot for us to sit in front of this computer and type what we want.... Support the troops... My prayers go out to his family and community for thier loss. Cory

Posts: 484 Location: St. Louis, MO., Marco Is., FL, Nestor Falls, ON | A Soldier's Prayer The soldier stood and faced his God Which must always come to pass... He hoped his shoes were shining Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and Said,"No, Lord, I guess I ain't... Because those of us who carry guns Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays And at times my talk was tough, And sometimes I've been violent, Because the streets are awfully tough. But, I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime When the bills got just too steep, And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear, And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here... They never wanted me around Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand, I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand." There was a silence all around the throne Where the saints had often trod... As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God, "Step forward now you soldier, Fear not what what I may tell, Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell." Dedicated To All That Serve... God Bless America!

Posts: 1207 Location: Pigeon Forge TN. | Thanks guys, I really like that Soldiers Prayer. I just found out that Sgt. David Veverka will be taken to and buried at the Arlington Sematary in D.C. Also that our Dept. will do traffic and crowd control as we hear there will be Anti-War protesters there. My God I hope not, not at a funeral. Edited by Stan Durst 1 5/13/2006 4:23 PM

Posts: 1207 Location: Pigeon Forge TN. | I accidently left a couple words out by mistake. The protesters are expected at the funeral home here in Jamestown Monday during the services . The casket will then be on its way to Arlington. But still I agree, a funeral is no place for protesting Edited by Stan Durst 1 5/14/2006 8:13 AM

Stan,That is sad to hear that the town of Jamestown,PA has lost one of their Son's to the war in Iraq, but even more sad to even think that anyone would stoop so low as to protest the war at the funeral of a Soldier, infront of his grieving family. As an American,as a U.S.M.C. Combat Veteran of Vietnam 67-68,I would like to STOMP the PROTESTORS right off the very ground they stand on,as they Stand In Shame to a Fallen American Hero! Capt. Larry

Posts: 1207 Location: Pigeon Forge TN. | My last post on this. Everything when quiet all day and evening for the services. The " L " shaped sidewalk was lined with a motorcycle group of war vets each standing vigil with a large American flag for a show of support. The protesters never showed up and everyone was very thankful. All who were outside including the firepolice and town police for the whole 10 hours were in constant rain as it never stopped. and all were soaking wet. I kind of think it was Gods way of showing tears for all who have given their lives for what they believe in. Soldiers brought out coffee every hour for all of us and each time thanked us all for our compassion and support. We in turn thanked them and let them know that we support them and that what we are doing is nothing compared to what they do. We are thankful that everything was quiet and went according to plans. The casket leaves this morning for Arlington. Thank all of you for your support and compassion for this fallen Hero and his family.
