Anyone ever had any luck night fishing with glow in the dark lures. Planning on doing some night fishing the next couple months and wondering if anyone has any experience using glow lures. Bought a glow in the dark magnum bulldawg today. Thanks for the help

I have tried glow in the dark blades on bucktails at night, and had zero success on it. I think it was too much. It looked like a flashlight coming through the water. I have much more success with black and nickel bucktails! Putting just a tiny strip of glow tape on the shaft of the bucktail or a tiny glow bead in front of the bucktail helps to see it coming in so you know when to go into the figure 8.

I will be curious to see if anyone has had success with glow baits at night. I would definitely not recommend them with what I have seen at night! Muskies can see very well at night, and I have been fortunate enough to catch a lot of fish at night, just not on glow baits!!

Hope this helps,

Chad

I tried glow blades on bucktails a couple times and found I spent more time holding the thing in front of the LED charger thingy then I did casting it. I do like putting a glow bead on my leaders to help see where the lure is when it gets close to the boat. It will save from burning a bucktail into your rod tip.

A friend of mine uses the glow in the dark blades, he night fishes a lot. He has had great success with them on one lake and non on the other lake he fishes. The glow blades not working could be lake specific. I wouldn't rule them out on a lake you haven't tried them on before.

I have tried Glow Blades but like others not much luck, what I do use however is a small glow bead on the leader, This really helps a lot in doing a Fig 8 at night when your just not sure how far away the lure is, also it's really cool to see the bead comming in at a straight line then suddenly veers off to one side and then a split second later you feel the hit - kind of like an early warning system

I am really impressed with just glow in the dark eyes on crank baits, etc. Not too much, yet a visible turn on.

I've caugth several nice muskies after dark on Blk/White Windel's Harrassers with glow tape on the blades. They sell them with either silver or gold blades that have glow tape where the prism tape is usually found. The glow is just enough so that you can see the lure before the leader slams into your tip top. I'm not sure if it's the glow tape that is an added attractor, but I don't think it hurts as long as the glow is not too bright. I will keep using these baits. I've experimented a little bit with strips of glow tape that are marketed to salmon fisherman for modifying their trolling lures. You might want to try that on some of your bucktails or putting eyes or strips on some of your hardbaits before spending a bunch of money on lures with glow blades. I have to say that I like the Harasser blades that still have a lot of metallic finish even with the glow tape rather than blades that are completely painted with glow paint.

I've just bought a few of these glowing crankbaits and will try them when the next season begins in the spring. Has anyone here ever tried this particular model, and what did you think of them if you did? Here's their website for more info.

Out here we use lighted Kwikfish and Brads Wigglers to troll for salmon and steelhead at night. You can get either of these lures in large sizes. Also, have you ever seen a "lunker light"? www.omniglow.com/lunkerlights.htm

They are about an inch long and as big around as a pencil. You bend them in the middle to activate them and then they stay lit for hours and hours. You could attach two of them to your favorite topwater or crank with a rubber band or epoxy and fish all night with a super bright offering.

The main problem with glow in the dark baits is that fisherman charge them up until they light up the lake. You want to make 2 slow
passes over the bait and then repeat the process on the other side. You want to use a flashlight, not a flash. I think you'll be very
impressed with the results.

I like the glow finish to be on the top of the lure so I can see it; there's the advantage of glow finish for me. The fish can see in VERY low light on rod vision, so a big charge not only isn't necessary, it might be too much.

On gills and crappies through the ice, a soft charge seems to work better than a real strong charge.

I had ZERO luck on glow lures at night, but have had awesome luck with glow lures during the day while suspendo fishing. They have a creepy opauqe white color during the day that has saved more then a few days for me!

I have also had almost ZERO luck at night with glow lures. I did have one stupid fish eat a glow Bulldawg at night, but I have since stopped throwing lures that glow.
