I'd be suprised...wasn't there just 14" of ice there two weeks ago? I'd think it wouldn't melt that quick while hitting about 30 degrees every night..

The small ponds by me just opened up two days ago. I really doubt the ice is off those bigger lakes 90min north yet.

I doubt it is open yet. Keep an eye on this website:

There is a webcam pointed at Pistakee. I didn't check it today, but as of yesterday it was still froze. The ice wasn't looking too good though!

Drove by there yesterday, some of the channels are clear but the main lake is still an ice cube, maybe another 2 weeks and it should be good to go

As of March 5th, The dink ponds by me have just opened (Mount Prospect) and a canal i drive over on the way to work is still iced over so i doubt the chain is open yet. This rain should sure as heck help things though!!!!! Man i love the anticipation of this time of year!!!!!

Strong southerly winds, thunderstorms, and 60 degrees tomorrow. That may just do the trick. I think I’ll put a fresh charge on my batteries and dig my boat out of the garage this weekend.

At this rate I think it is fair to say that we'll be tossing lures by April 1st!

Hey, could this be partially open already?

Now thats the spirit! Yes, the chain is partially open. The channels and current areas are wide open but there is still quite a bit of ice on the main lakes. I will be driving by tomorrow on the way to pick up the boat so I will post a open water/ice report tomorrow.

Check out the cam link above, looks open enough to go fishing to me. Just need to figure out a ramp that the wind hasn’t blow the ice into. With only two months of ice I bet they’re relating to the green weeds.

Took a side trip around the chain today. Channel, Catherine, and Marie have ice or at least 80% ice. Fox off of 12 is about 40-50% open. The channels are ice free. Thursty Turtle, Mentones and Frank and Chars (Barnacle Bobs) are all locked in. On the flip side the lake by Lambs Farm is wide open and Lake Zurich is open for as far as you can see off 12. Basically, there is open water up until route 176.
