Heading up to Canada in 3 weeks from Chicago. We will be far away from civilization and I'm new to boat ownership. Any recommendations as to what commonly breaks and what I should have extra of just in case? Any suggestions is very much appreciated!

Prop and kit (wrench), extra oil, fuses if have them, plugs, I have extra power cords to make it to the recharger, some extra rope. I'll be taking an extra bin with me with those items along to canada.

awesome thread. This will be my first year in Canada with my own boat. Here's my list:

Jumper Cables
Fuses
Spare boat keys
Spare prop, nut, cottter pin
Prop Wrench
Spare TM prop
Spare TM foot pedal. Seem more of those break than I can count.
Distilled water for battteries
Wipes & TP. Not something that breaks, but needed more than a few times on past trips
Electrical tape

A decent, yet compact, socket and wrench set. Generally this doesn't break, but it can fix stuff you break. A bag of random nuts, bolts, and washers. They may not hold an exact purpose, but could come in handy at some point.

Also it's never bad to have a good first aid kit in your boat.

running light bulbs or extra light poles (make sure they work before you leave)

Plugs, fuses, relays (trim), volt meter of some sort, wrenches/sockets, fuel treatment stuff, oil, and basic wiring stuff.

I've had voltage regulators go, trim switches go, water in my gas, broke a trolling motor, trolling motor pedals act up, blew a fuse in a battery charger, and I'm sure other things I'm forgetting. Things happen. As important as having spare tools is knowing where the closest mechanic is.

Where are you going?

Duck tape...never travel without it.
Years ago I assembled a first aid kit that fits into a fanny pack. It also contains: signal mirror, fire starting flint, solar blanket, water purifying tablets and a great Swiss Army folding knife.

Over the years, I have needed screw drivers, socket set, fuses, jumper cables, electrical tape, duct tape, cotter pins, flashlight and an extra kill switch cord. I usually also have on board a heavy duty wire cutter, connectors for wiring in case something electrical needs repair, and WD-40 as well.

I have also had to use a flat tire plug kit on a couple of occasions, both truck and trailer. I usually have a 2nd spare for the trailer too.

Better to have a little overkill than to be stranded in the woods at the side of the road or somewhere on the lake.

Extra fuses, connectors, electrical tape, wire, eyelets, wire cutters, dielectric grease. 90%+ of my problems are electrical so I stock a lot of that.
Marine sealant, spare plug.
An extra prop kit is a good idea in your case.

when on a trip to Canada these to me are essential and can make or break a trip. back up locators... back up trolling motor.
spare prop. back up footpedal for TM. fresh batteries all the way around.
the Minn Kota on board DC charger is worth it's weight in gold.. last thing you want when fish are going is to be worried about TM battery juice...

Break it down to those things you need to 1) get there and back, 2) run the boat while on site and 3) fish. #1 includes the truck and trailer with bearings and tires and lights being the priority because a highway breakdown will surely **** up both #'s 2 and 3. #2 is all about having the parts and tools available to manage simple repairs typically needed for your motor. #3 is about extra reels and line and lures.
