Hey all - I'm gonna get a new net this year. I fish solo a lot, and need something fairly easy to handle that way. Up here in Canada there doesn't seem to be a lot of options out there. I can get a Frabill Big Kahuna for $250 or a Drifter Predator XL for $150. I can order something like a Frabill Big Game from the US but the exchange rate is just killer right now. The old net I used was terrible for tangling the hooks and the fish up in the mesh. I need to get a tangle free net this time around. Less stress on the fish, and much easier and safer to unhook and release them.
So between these two, which would be my better choice? Or any other recommendations from anyone?
Thanks all!

The big kahuna is a great net but if you fish by your self most of the time i would buy the predator

Big Kahuna is the net I use. Big deep bag, thick coated mesh. The net is quite heavy, and has a lot of drag. Definitely tough to single arm when fishing solo.

The drifter will be a much better choice for fishing solo. I have the xl and it's plenty big

For solo usage the Frabil 9530 is the way to go. Great size and unbelievable light.

If you're thinking about the big kahuna, get the drifter XXL. That net swallows muskies. It's like an aquarium boatside. I haven't had any issues soloing with it. I absolutely love my XXL

What Tolle said!! I had the heavier bag Kahuna and since I solo it a lot I bought the Drifter XXL bag and couldn't be happier!

I'd recommend a robohandle if you do a lot of solo fishing. http://robohandle.com/

That looks like a good idea. It is hard to keep the handle from twisting when using one hand and that looks like the solution. Thanks.

For sure get the Drifter net. They are very nice nets and hold up great. You will be very happy with it.

I bought the XXL predator last year and love it. Similar sized to Kahuna but much lighter.

I got a chance to handle the XL last week, I think it'll be big enough for me. Was happy with the weight of it, and the quality of bag as well.

Had a Big Kahuna loved that net but was in market for new bag and liked the look of the new drifter net.
That being said i won the XL at a banquet and first fish i end up netting with it was a 51 incher. I felt that there wasn't enough bag hanging in the water (hanging off a 621)since i was so used to the area of the Kahuna, so i went to the XXL and haven't looked back love it! XL is definitely easier to handle solo but i sure like the freedom the fish has to move in the XXL and ability to keep them in the water.
All great nets.

I would definitely go with the Drifter. I have one and absolutely love it. Much easier to handle by yourself then the Big Kahuna but is plenty big enough.

I ended up getting the Predator XL this weekend. They didn't have any XXL's for me to compare them to, but I think this one will be fine. A trophy fish is about a 48'' where I fish, and my boat doesn't site very high off the water, so the XL should be fine for now. Once I get the itch for that 50'', and start making trips up to Eagle or Seul, I may have to upgrade to the XXL...
