| Just curious if anyone could tell , what kind of knots are you using on flouro leaders, thinking about buying some and would like to know what all of you are using or would reccomend. |

| Pretty sure its neither of those...again search flourocarbon knots lee tauchen think that is the knot used for all stealth leaders. They've worked well for a lot of people.

How big of line can you go up to and still do this knot?

Location: Hayward, WI | Lee's knot is the Centauri knot. I use it, and it's worked well for me so far. I use 150 pound Seaguar and it seems to tighten up pretty well. I do leave a loop in it and crimp the tag end. Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure Stealth uses a nail knot.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | The knot shown in Lee's pics is not the Centauri knot but maybe it's supposed to be. The Centauri knot wraps up and the tag goes over and back through the loops, making a wrap over the stacked loops. The knot in Lee's diagram appears to wrap down with the tag running back through the loops and doesn't create a wrap over the loops. As shown in Lee's pics it is basically a nail knot. |

If you look at Lee's PDF instructions, and then the centauri.....sure looks to me like you're tying the same knot. If it were the nail knot, the tag would be pointing toward the lure when you're done. The tag points away on Lee's and the centauri.
Whatever you call it, the one Lee shows is a rock solid knot that doesn't need glue or a crimp. A little tricky to tie with heavy fluoro. Tie it the way he shows, with your hands doing what his right and left hand are doing. I tried doing it with the left hand holding the loops and it was giving me fits. The loops kept rolling over each other.

Location: Germantown, WI | I've been using a Palomar knot for the last several years. It's a little tricky to tie with heavy flurocarbon, but it can be done. I've only done it with 80#. It might be a bit trickier with 100# or 130#. I've not had any bite offs or failures yet. Most of them muskies that I have caught over the last 3-4 years have been on my homemade fluorocarbon leaders.
There was a guy in our Muskies Inc chapter that gave a demonstration on how to make leaders a couple of years ago. He used a tool that he bought from Rollie and Helen's Musky Shop. It was pretty slick. I think it tied a nail knot. I've thought about buying one, but just never got around to it. |

| The difference between the Centauri and Lee's version, whether intended to be a variation or not, is that as Lee makes the loops, he makes each succesive one going toward the snap, whereas with the Centauri each new loop is made going away from the snap. Then the tag is brought back toward the snap and put through the same way as Lee's. This is what causes the "overlap" of the line on the outside of the loops. Very similar though. |
