in southern WI the weekend started out cold and slowly got warmer, it was almost balmy out there today!
a number of the smaller waters froze over, even in the southern part of WI...but pleny of open water on bigger/deeper lakes and in more southern states.

where'd you find the muskies, and did they find your lures???

We still have open water on Kinkaid and are putting fish in the boat casting and trolling. Got a 44 yesterday and lost two today. The biggest fish I had on all weekend ate a Crisco from LLungen Lures. She got off due to a bad net job. The new Crisco will be sure to turn some heads.

Me and Muskie_man went to cave run today, 16 degrees or so when we left before dark. High about 46-48 or so. Beautiful day, got a 31 incher about 9;30 am. Saw 2 other small fish, talked to 2 other boats who did'nt see anything. water temp was 44-46 . Local streams/ponds are froze ! MD

Fished the Twin Cities where there was open water and ramps, similar report to most days I can recall recently. 5-6 follows both days, but nobody seriously interested. <sigh>

it's been quite awhile since i actually fished 3 days on a weekend, but i bought myself a bucket full of suckers and braved the cold.

Friday afternoon i fished solo on Wingra; with water temps at 30 degrees and air temps in the low 20s, it was the last day of open water as it froze up overnight. a fellow club member got a 38" nearby and about 10 minutes later i popped a 38.5" on a sucker.

Saturday i fished locally with a good friend who'd never done much sucker fishing before. with water temps at 37 and air temps topping out around 30, we were still dealing with lots of freezing gear all day. we saw a 37" caught nearby us on a bulldawg, early on we had a drop on a sucker, and late in the day we got a 40 to go on a sucker.

Sunday another friend and i hit the same local pond. water temps at 36 and highs in the upper 30s/low 40s with very low wind, what a great day to be on the water! of course, the fish were uncooperative with the baitfish balled up tight on the bottom in deep water and no muskies seen.

hopefully the weather will hold out a bit longer so i can get out on Thanksgiving and again next weekend for Closing Day...snow tonight but with a warming trend late next week it looks like it might be okay.

I only saw one and it ended up being my first figure eight fish ever. It followed a shallow invader around and hit on the 4th revolution.

I got out for a few hours before work Saturday and Sunday late morning-early afternoon. We couldn't fish the lake we wanted to on Saturday due to some ice at the landing, so we tried a different lake a few miles down the road. Had never fished muskies there before, and had only been on the lake one other time before today. Found a pretty good concentration of "fish" down 20-35 feet over 30-50 feet of water. LOTS of hooks on the Lowrance, but most were 30 feet down. Spent the whole time trolling, and caught this little 30 incher (don't fight me on this one - it was 30 inches dang it...lol) on a DDD in just over 30 FOW. For fishing during this "trophy" time of year, this has been by far my smallest fish of the year - HA! First musky I ever caught trolling though.

Went back to the same lake today, and the fish were not stacked up nearly like they were yesterday. Market a few fish, but they were one here and there rather than schooled up, and most were 30-50 feet down in 50-80 feet of water. No takers today.

Hopefully we get some wind this week along with the somewhat mild highs predicted for this week. The ice on the lake I wanted to fish was broken up some today - probably could have gotten a boat out with a little work. Some more wind and highs near 40 should take care of what is left there.

For the most part I had water temps just under 40.

Got out for 3 hrs trolling on Sunday on Monona which turned out to be a great day. Tons of boats at the launch. Waldo got this one just short of 40" right away but nothing else in the boat. Fish was really fat for its size.

My bro and I got out on Saturday. Had a fish come up on pounders twice then hit a grandma on a figure eight!! Turned out to be my bro's personal best @ 46 inches.

Went out on Fox Chain on Saturday with a live well full of suckers. Skim ice on parts of the lakes. Caught nothing, Saw Nothing. It was great to get out, we knew it was time to go in when I lost sight of my bobber, reeled it in and saw the bobber coming in under a large sheet of ice.

Sad to end the season, knowing Cabin Fever is around the corner.

Nice fish, Rainman! Is that really only 41.5"? Did it eat a muskrat before it grabbed your shallow invader? It's a sow.

Yeah, it was 41.5 inches. It was a tank though. In fact, I normally wouldn't bother girthing a fish unless I was going to replicate it, but the catch and release was going so smoothly I went ahead and girthed it quick and it was 20 inches around in the thickest part. Approximately a 20-21 pound fish. Speaking of the CPR, I was going to do a release shot and as soon as I laid her back down into the water she thrashed out of my hands before I could even get a hold of her tail and sprayed water all over the place. It was a great way to end the season! I can't wait until the Chicago Musky Show. I have never been to one because I coach wrestling and we always have a tournament that weekend, but it was kicked back a week this season and I have that weekend open now. I am pumped!

Fished Waubesa on Saturday, only saw one fish caught..a poorly handled 45 incher that after the guy took a couple of minutes taking vertical hold pics he proceeded to drop the fish in the bottom of the boat and stood and looked at it for 30-40 seconds before he finally just picked it up and "discarded" it overboard. We went over to look for it and found nothing after 20 minutes or so (hopefully will be ok). Fished Monona on Sunday and was kind of surprised to see the number of boats out. We managed one chunky little 33 and partner had one follow and the fish found his sucker after the follow, grabbed it for a second and dropped it. Also saw a Father - son team hook up with a 45, never saw the fish but talked to them right after it.
