With the bigger baits hitting the market, I am looking at making a larger power handle. I am wondering if there would be any interest in this?

Thanks

What do you mean by larger? If you mean the actual paddle that you hold onto I think there are enough of them already out there.

Reelman, Any chance Abu will come out with a new power handle for the 6000's similar to the handles on the new 7000's? KDAWG

You can buy a new one and put it on a 6000 series. They sell them at my local shop.

Bytor, Is that with the soft rubber grip instead of the plastic? Kdawg

This may not hold true on the new reels, but the 7000 and 6000 series power handles are not directly interchangeable. The shaft on the 7000 is a little larger, so the handle has a bit of slop when you put it on the 6000 series reel.

It doesnt really cause a problem, but it is something to consider.

I've got a few longer ones from Hatteras. They definitely provide more power.

I also think there are plenty on the market that most people just dont know about. Just about every saltwater reel Shimano makes has an adjustable power handle. Shorter for more speed, longer for more power. I'm sure you could order one from them...depending on what reel you are looking to put it on

kdawg, Yes all the new power handles are like the 7000 handles with the larger, rounder, more rubbery paddle on them. Baldy is right that there is a difference in the shaft sizes between the 7000 and 6000 size reels.

Fisher, I am afraid if the handle is to long that it will put more stress on the drove shaft of the reel. Not from the direction the handle rotates but from the outside to the inside of the reel if that makes any sense!

the large padded handles that came on my luna 300L's are really nice...they also fit my 6501c4's and make an incredible difference on them...!...are there other power handles that i might want to consider on either of those reels...?

If U want a counter balanced power handle with a bearing and soft rubber paddle for the ABU 6500, LUNA, SHIMANO TE reels try the SHIMANO TRINIDAD TN12 or TN14 handle. The LUNA 300 handle will fit the ABU 5000-6000 reels. The LUNA handles comes with a plastic bushing in the paddles that can be replaced with a 4X7X2.5 bearing, that will make the handle as smooth as silk.

If you use a power handle that does not have have the counter wt on the other end, when you cast hard with big baits the handle can engage on the cast. Also on fast retrieves it is a lot smoother with a counter balance handle. Most of the deep sea reels do not have counter balance weights because you will never cast them.
