| A couple weeks ago I caught this bizarre looking northern pike. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Either pike or muskie? I have seen a couple photos online in the past of pike similar to this one, but had never seen one in real life until I caught this one. It was in good condition though, and didn't seem to be bothered at all by the different shape of the head/upper jaw.

| ive seen pike like that in a pike fishing book i have. its an infisherman book. was that pike caught in minnesota? i think the book said that theres a lake in minnesota that has a few pike like that in it. |

| When I find the picture of the fish my dad mounted I'll post it, I think it was a couple years ago...like 43" musky with a head like that. Crazy stuff! |

Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | I've seen a few pictures of fish like that. I've only witnessed one fish like that in person, a small musky my brother caught years ago. But it was a very healthy looking fish other than the defect. Birth defect or other cause? Hard to say.

| My thought is that it been stuck on a piketrap(gäddsax) as juvenile & gotten loose ,then the upperjaw has healed in an awkward position seen similar in ponds 5-6 hours south of you Petey |

Location: Lincoln UK | merely a genetic thing, here in the UK and Ireland certain waters seem to throw them up others never seem to have them.

| I got a tiger earlier this year with the same thing. I've also seen pics of a few more, but never a northern before.

Location: Norway | Its called mopshead (mopsehode) Its a deformation that can occur, and is pretty common in stocked fish. The name I think derives from the small dogs, we call them Mops, the are bred to have a shorter upper jaw.

| I have a caught a number of pike just like this around Sturgeon Bay. They were always bigger pike and figured they were the ones that were coming in from the big pond to spawn. It didn't appear to interfer with feeding. Doug |

| looks like something to come out of the mississippi, by the power plant. i caught a smallie with a snout similar to that. very ugly fish |
