I fish alot and I'm sorry not always for musky because of where I live. What is the best bait to catch all types of fish on and hope that a musky might be interseted if there's one in the water.

Your guess is just as good as mine! May I politely remind you to bring with proper release tools to ensure the safety of you and the fish? Small Baits in particular have a greater tendency to be deeply engulfed inside of large gamefish! Having long needle-nose pliers, mouth spreaders and a large landing net are IMHO the bare minimum. I would also suggest knipex bolt-cutters.

small baits

I have had great luck catching other (non-muskies) while fishign for muskies on 7 inch suicks. Bass, walleye, northern, and while I have not I have heard of catfish. Another I used to use but not to much anymore was a 5-6 inch Mepps Musky Killer. Another great lure that looks like a small baitfish.

Grunt probably gave you two of the best in a jerk and bucktail and I wholeheartedly agree with those choices. You may also consider a spinnerbait like a Fudally Candy Spin. A nice small plastic like the Musky Innovations Spring Dawg is a good choice for multi species and for a crank/stick bait maybe a Rapala Husky Jerk.

Gotta go with a Husky Jerk, black/silver or firetiger.

Oh, and ANY bass bait! Those will pick up about anything active. I have even caught some good crappie on the J18 Rapalas.

Rattletrap. Pike, smallies, largemouths, maybe a walleye, white bass. You name it, it will probably hit a rattletrap.

a simple white bass-sized safety-pin spinnerbait. I have caught bass and pike, of course, the occasional walleye, and even muskie including my first legal.

I would also throw in the new X-Rap 14's (5.5" model). Not really a 'Musky' bait but just big enough to catch their attention and the action also helps. Heavy enough hardware to handle them but not to be used with your standard musky gear. I would lighten things up a little. I've caught all species on these lures.

A good all around bait is a spinner bait or a inline spinner.

Good choices above. I will add the 5.5" zam from zalt lures. They make a 4 and 9" model and they come in floating, suspending and sinking models. Click on the zaltnad link to check them out.

I would have to agree with the X-Rap 14 or a 6" Shaker...

3/4 oz Rattletrap, J-13 Rapala, 3/4 oz white spinnerbait. Can't think of a gamefish that wouldn't hit any of these 3 baits.
Smallmouth, largemouth , walleye, sauger, whitebass, rockbass, musky, pike, even an odd channelcat or 2 have all came from these baits.
