Posts: 3926 | On a whim I checked Dead.Net for Summer Tour info last night and found that many midwestern dates went onsale today (GDTS only, Ticketmaster to follow), including Alpine and Deer Creek. Pappa Joe and I were able to nab reserved seating for the Saturday, July 24 Alpine show, though we're not sitting together as tickets were going FAST and pairs were already unavailable 20 minutes after the sale began. I imagine more floor seats will be avaialble when Ticketmaster begins on the 17th(?). Anyway, Pappa and I did the Somerset WI show last year, and we musky fished befor and after the show. This year we're just in the planning stages of heading north for a few days after the Alpine show, maybe end up somewhere (hmmm.....maybe some hideout of some sort) I've been invited to but never able to go due to scheduling probs. Anyway, the more the merrier. Get your tickets now and figure out the details later. SLAMR, how about it? Wanna go?! Let the devils run free for a day or two? The Band is in rare form these days, no more sloppy sets. Jerry is still there, if you squint just so you'll see him sage right, as usual. He's in white these days, though. Shep, want to hang out with some leftist hippie wanna-be's for a day or two? I'll let you smoke some of my LSD.

Posts: 827 Location: Minneapolis,Minnesota | Well Ranger you'll have a hell of a time getting me to a Dead show unless they switch off between Charlie Daniels and Fear covers all night, but you won't have to twist my arm hard to fish with ya. Let me know if you wanna fish N. WI or Minnesota? Either way I'm in for the fishing end of it. Drop me a line at [email protected]

Posts: 5874 | You know Alpine is right down the road from several good SE WI Muskie lakes. Pewaukee, Okauchee, Oconomowac, Silver....Why not stick around here and fish? I'm sure we can get out for some boat time! I don't think I have any tourneys then, so what do you say?!

Posts: 3926 | Killer, Shep and Steve, thanks for the Kind responses. You too, Figuree. Killer, I'm a CDB fan from WAY back, saw about 6 shows so far in my time, starting in the mid-70's. The Dead does do cowboy tunes (as we call them), but not for the entire show. You would probably be disgusted by the parking lot scene; many smelly hippies and other ner-do-well folks who have dropped out of regular life to follow the band. Like Phish folks, but older and they drink less Mountain Dew. Shep, I don't see any reason not to take advantage of your idea, never fished those waters and would like to see you again. I'll have my little boat for sure and Pappa is buying a larger (18' or so) but I doubt he'll bring it to the show. My boat is too small for most big water, so, we may have to go out with you, if your gifted and charming children don't mind staying at home while you guide Pappa and I. Steve, I didn't think for a moment that you would miss the "hideout" reference. Thank you for the offer and I'm going to talk with Pappa about touring up your way. We'll land on some firm dates (the first few week days immediately after the show) and get back with you. THANKS! and can you go fishing, too? Figuree, I love the handle. Pappa use to have a MN license plate that read "Sugaree". I understand your quandry and acknowldge that certain GD summer outdoor shows are hard balance against other opportunities. I also totally understand your reference to "easier on the body"; it's closely related to my words to SLAMR, "...let your devils run free for a day or two". As Hunter Thompson says, "Buy the ticket, take the ride." Some of us can't help but take the ride while at the shows. Anyway, this deal is shaping up to be the highlight of my summer. Pappa is getting a handle on camping near the venue. Musky fishing and a Dead show and more musky fishing. Life is good again. Could I possibly run into FishOn or MuskyE while tramping around WI?

Posts: 285 | Hey Now Ranger, The plates were SGR MAG for Sugar Magnolia, although few people knew for sure what the heck it meant. First song I learned to play on guitar, and always a nice song live. My favortie was a set-long Sugar Magnolia>Sunshine Daydream sandwich, 7/18/1988. It rained HARD as they played Mighty Quinnn for the encore, I remember being somewhat releived by the cool rain after such a long hot week in the dusty Alpine Valley freakshow lot. This will be Dead show #82 or so for me, looking forward to the extended combo weekend, I hope we manage to have as relaxing a time as last summer. I was thinking I'd have my boat in tow, will leave it at my sisters place outside Milwaukee until needed. We ought to investigate the Worrall offer fully, we can always plan another weekend jaunt to the SE Wisconsin area. That's a shorter trip for you than me these days. I am hitting Pewaukee Lake in mid-May, before the northern WI opener. I'll be fishing (hopefully) quite a bit with young PK, so we'll coordinate him joining us the day after the show. Anyone interested in going, I expect there will be lots of tickets being dumped at the gate, if the past several Alpine shows are any indication. I typically buy too many tickets and have only managed to recover $25 to $35 for my spares the last few times. People tend to buy extra tix and then their friends leak out at the last minute.... My calendar is marked for this one, I will plan at least the following Monday off. Have a groovy day, papa joe

Posts: 3926 | Bats? I choose my trusty old Ithica 16 pump with small bird shot. Just the same as I do when shooting those evil leaping oriental carp on the Mississippi River. Splattoooooo.. Anyway, even single seats are now gone (natch) on GDTS, next reserved seating will be available 4/17 at 10:00est via Ticketmaster. SLAMR - your lack of response suggests you are seriously considering the temptation. C'mon, let's set our devils free together. Pappa will keep an eye on us.

Posts: 3926 | Papa! We posted at just the same moment. I'm rattling the windows with Panic RIGHT NOW, due to your sage dircetives. Can't say what numer this Dead show will be for me, lost count somewhere around 1984. Less than 84, though, I think.

Posts: 3926 | Too cool!! Hey, everybody, we're invited to crash as Dave and Janell's place for as many days as we want both befor and after the show!! And, he'll take us fishing!! Man, what a great guy; no wonder he scored such an awsome and talented babe as a wife! (You know, she's the only person to boat a musky at the '02 Bone Lake Outing.) You are a dang good egg, Dave.

Posts: 3926 | No, no, the Hideout is surely the destination. I'm just giving Dave #*#*; he and Janell are likely dismayed that the thought of being hosts for myself, PappaJoe and whoever else we drag into this venture. Dave only offered to take us out fishing, a kind offer that'll be discussed when Pappa and I next chat. Nice that so many folks are willing to take us fishing on their homewaters. Q: Why are Deadheads worse than ants? A: They invade your house without invitation; bring friends that look, smell and behave like escaped convicts; eat all your food and drink all your beer; stay up all night partying in your living room; borrow money; have sex in your bed while you and your wife are at work; criticize your CD collection; endlessly attempt to persuade you that the Dead is the best band in the world; and offer way too many tips on how to take care of your houseplants. And, they won't leave.
