I'm looking for something like this for downsized lures and just to have as an extra rod for guests. It also comes in a heavy action but both say rated for 1-4 oz lures. Anyone have any favorite rods for such applications? Preferably $100 or under.

That's a 2 piece salmon rod...I guess I'd ask what do you plan to throw mainly? And what is downsized in your mind? 2-4 oz. is not really downsized IMO... If you want to throw 1-4 oz lures and it'll be bucktails/spinnerbaits at times get something like this Shimano : CPCM90HTJ - 9'0" H There's a number of decent options in the $150-$220 range...I wouldn't look too go cheap. Or maybe you can find a good used 9' for $100 ..I sold 3 of my extra TI's for $125/ea this year or I'd try to help ya out ![]()

Easy to reel stuff like lighter 7" rapala minnowbaits, 4.5" grandma's, spring Dawgs, bomber long a magnums, light topwaters, buzz baits, etc. Kind of cross over lures for myself when I get tired of the bigger stuff or if my nephews or mom are in the boat. Also taking into consideration the lighter hooks. I would prefer a 1 piece rod but not too concerned about 2. Also looking at an okuma 1 piece casting rod and spinning rods.

Posts: 2067 | Yep 7'6-8' heavy bass rods are perfect for those...I have a 7'6" st.croix flippin stick that I love to throw in the spring for those types of baits - I just can't/won't fish a bucktail without at least a 9' rod

Even my 8 yr old nephew can handle a 7' rod so an extra foot or two in a few years shouldn't be a problem as long as the rod isn't too heavy. Plus it would help with short arms and figure 8's.

Posts: 2067 | you likely won't find a bass rod for under $200 over 8'...for years BASS limited rod length to 8'..although its now 10, demand for rods over 8' in the bass world must be basically zero, with no demand you either get custom or high-end $200+ swimbait rods...The rod Ninja recommended would be great for what you want to throw.

Posts: 1382 | I use a 7 1/2 ft. Fenwick bass flipping rod for those kinds of baits. It's labeled extra heavy, but that's a bass rating. More like a medium heavy muskie rod. Works great, and allows for pinpoint casting.

My throwback rod, black jig/creature always, is a custom-made medium heavy 7.5' bass flipping rod with a tricked Ambassador 4500c loaded with 40b PowerPro.

Posts: 1327 Location: E. Tenn | I've been using one of these, (7'6"H) with an old Revo Toro on it to throw the small stuff. Great setup for the price IMHO. https://www.basspro.com/p/bass-pro-shops-graphite-series-casting-rod...

Posts: 60 Location: Janesville wi | Elk River makes a rod for this it’s a good rod and not expensive. Gary Loomis edge rods makes a 7’6” xh bass rod that’s rated to 2 ounces but you could go a bit heavier. You’ll not find a lighter rod with more power but it’s also not cheap or readily available.

Being telescopic makes it great for travel and nice if your fishing from a shore with brush and trees. Mine is paired up with my old BPS Pete Maina pm20a low pro reel, which matches up really well. Handles all my downsized baits in that 1/2oz. to 1.5 oz. range. Kdawg
