How would you describe the perfect glider? How big is it? How fast does it sink? How does it move? Does it rotate quickly on its axis or does it have a long glide? Does it wobble? How deep does it run? What kind of jerk/pause pattern makes it catch fish?

These are the things I think about while I am waiting for the water to cool down enough so I can fish again.

Best advice for gliders, keep the casts moderate to short.

As for the perfect glider it would wobble on the fall, glide erratically, sink slowly, stay down when retrieved and have a photorealistic paint job.

A glider that runs deeper, has a good speed burst, wobble and a nice stop at the end. One you can lift the rod and work shallow. I make long casts with gliders. A good glider can he worked on a long cast.

1. Sinks slowly
2. Sinks level
3. A little shake/shimmy on the fall
4. Kicks out sideways and hangs there
5. Nice flash/roll
6. Doesn't "blow out" if you work it a little faster

The side to side thing is fun to watch, which is exactly what fish do with them. The ones that get eaten are the ones you can make do something different.

Modivator. Best I have ever seen imo.
Easy to work, wobbles on slow sink and can be danced in one spot if u need to.
And it catches fish.

I am a big fan of the Bikini Baits Turmoil X. That sucker has a WIDE glide and a very nice "shimmy" on the pause.

The thing that way too many guys don't realize with gliders is that there isn't "one perfect one". Just like any bait, gliders are tools. There are so many different ones out there with so many slight differences in the ways that they run, that they are all applicable in different situations. I have spent countless hours perfecting the ones that I make to be as versatile as possible to any given situation, tinkering with weight placement, to get nice hang, with a nice shimmy on the fall, yet, able to produce a super erratic action that'll dart in a different place every jerk, depending on how hard you twitch it, where as a manta will give you consistency, of a beautiful side to side glide that is easy to work for a beginner. Mine can be quick hopped (and I mean quick) or slowwwwly worked for shut down fish, just as easily, but some other bait makers, pour their soul into one or the other and absolute dominate that aspect. Like I mentioned, as with any bait, gliders are tools. While they may be more intricate tools, you just have to know a little bit more about the idiosyncrasies that make each unique and what the fish may be looking for on that particular day.

And those of you who think you can't catch fish on gliders in the summer are missing out on some serious fish. If you master quick hopping gliders, it can outproduce many other summer tactics a lot more often than you may realize. Just don't come steal my fish

Feel free to pm me to ask questions or call me an idiot, I could talk gliders for days. haha

Twisted Suckers are good baits and versatile... can both run them high and also get them deep with cadence. They are my choice if I could only pick one.... but that is hard to do at times.

I have never caught a fish on a glider...well actually I caught about a 12" muskie on a phantom. So I guess that's my favorite.

The medium sized soft tail phantom has been the #1 producing bait in my boat, other than bucktails, for years now. It's weakness is in deeper structure, but dynamite in weeds/wood.

There are a lot of good ones out there. I like a glider that I can work fast or slow depending on the fish's mood. I agree that some work "perfectly" from side-to-side every time, and that is fun to watch, but I doubt the fish are as impressed with such consistent action.

I have seen many days when fish won't follow or strike anything else. The big problem is that a fish will often miss a glider, and they won't always come back for a second or third try. They are a great lure when you just need to change things up and move a fish or two.
