Hey maybe I can get Kingfisher to come out of the wood work and tell me whether he changes his hooks on the Lokes. I know he's a big fan of Lokes. I was wondering if anyone is using the 9 1/2" Lokes with the hooks that are supplied? They are unique in which only two barbs are on the bottom two hangers. There's a treble on back. The two barbed hooks on the bottom no doubt keep from tearing up the bait when trolled so that's definitely a pluse. But how are they for hooking up when a fish pops it? They seem a little small for the size of the bait and was wondering if they should be upsized. Or am I worrying about nothing.

Krappie

P.S. I was skeptical about the Eagle Tails with the single hooks, but that has been put aside by some fished caught on them. Sometimes less is better.

i have been using lokes on st. clair for the past several years. i asked the same question when my buddy pulled one out. how good they hook??? he said very good, you would be suprised. that trip we got 10 on saturday and 1 sunday(mother nature ran us off), but i think 7 were on it. the bait has suck a crazy side to side action that the fish will just crush the biat when they are going. biggest fish on it has been 48.5, most mid-high 30's. i wouldnt change those middle hooks.

the only thing about those baits are they seem to work good in clear water, not stained or muddy.

Thanks Marc I really appreciate the input. Did you guys use the big ones or the smaller Lokes? I'm also glad you mentioned to about the clear water vs the darker water. I think I have just the spot for them.he,he,he.
From the sounds of it, those baits looked like they get chewed on a little.

i primarily use the 6" or 7" not sure exactly how long it is. i have used both straights and jointers and both work equally as well. just depends in what you got confidence in.

lokes are very hard to get. there is no website on them. Muskiebaytackle had a few in stock or you might find them occasionally on ebay, but these wont be stock items yo find in thornes, helen and rollies, or even local fishing shops. the guy who makes them is from the anchor bay section of st. clair and he doesnt take orders. you pretty much got to go to his shop/marina and hope he has a few.

Artie, pretty clost to Terminators, both famous mostly for trolling Lake St Clair in SE Michigan. Neither dive very far but plenty of people adding weight above the leader to run 'em deeper. or-16 weight snaps work well or tie on a three way. you can run up to 8 or 10 oz of lead and they will run quit a bit deeper, the weight catches some weeds too!(keeps em off the lure).
Can't wait till June!

Hey Larry do you ever troll the Lokes around? If so how would you compare them to the Wiley's or Terminators? If you do troll them what speeds are you running them? Sorry for all the questions, I guess I'm just getting fired up for the seasn to come around. Plus I'm just trying to see if anyone has used the bigger Lokes with success.

Marc I really appreciate your vote of confidence on the baits and the insight. There seems to be not too many talking about them. Maybe that could be a good thing.

from my understanding, there is only 3 ways to see/find them.

1. goto his biat stoe at anchor bay.
2. muskiebaytackle.com did have a select few.
3. ebay or or someone willing to sell

Karpie,
I realy never liked the Loke, they walked to much for me to use in swirling current of the Niagara River. They were constantly getting accross each other for tangles, with multi wrap twists that took a long time to untangle.I have never seen a crankbait so hard to tune as the Loke as well.Every time you caught a fish it would take a 1/2 hour to get the Loke retuned.I prefer the Wiley's they can go slow, they can go fast to 10 mph.I could never get the Loke over 3.0 mph without getting roll over from time to time. But then again here on the Niagara River I don't troll small crankbaits to much, using 13" size most of the time, even use 13" Wiley's.When I fish smaller lakes of Ohio and PA I use the smaller Wiley's,but do better on Tuff Shad and Little Ernie's.
