Posts: 558 | Any quality reel will work, having a clicker on it is a must have, just incase your not paying attention. I personally use a saltist 30 and it has worked great for me. Just get something that won't break the bank and you'll be all good. Keep your hooks sharp and happy.

For basic sucker reels we use Shimano TR-200's($70) or Penn 209's($60). Neither have counters but both have good clickers (Penn 209 is a little louder) and the spool on both of these will not engauge unless the lever is flipped. Almost all reels with counters the spoll will engauge by rotating the handle so it is easy to have a reel engauge without knowing and causes missed fish when a sucker gets hit because it is no longer in free spool.

You can get them for $25 if you hit the right sale. Sucker fishing is by far the least equipment intensive aspect of Musky Hunting, at least in terms of cost.

Posts: 424 | Try an Abu Garcia 5500,6500 or 7000 Syncro drag model with clicker ,If you can find it. When syncro is open (you just have to turn the handle a quarter of turn behind ) it works as a Baitrunner Fixed Reel (used on carpfishing) . When the musky will strike, the clicker will sing and you will see the line running away. You just turn ahead/forward the handle, retrive a litte bit of line and...Set the hook !!!! esoxone
