Posts: 53 Location: Elk River,MN | I have a 2004 Optimax 150 and when I hit 5k RPM's the boat starts to bog down. Once I let off and get under 5k RPM it's smooth as can be. I'm not really interested in bringing it in since I'll be fishing a lot for the next few months but a guy at Marine Max said it could be the air pump?(Never heard of that) I changed the fuel filter and put the Mercury fuel additives into it and it's still doing it. Seem like a fuel delivery issue or a leaking hose? Anyone have any ideas that I can check out to see if I can fix it myself? Thanks Mike | ||

Posts: 1169 Location: New Hope MN | Maybe the tubing delaminated… It’s a sealed system and pulls a vacuum. So perhaps at 5KRPM it is just enough vacuum to cause the tubing to collapse on itself. I know it’s happened to other guys on this M1st, as there are related threads. | ||

Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | It's really hard to tell, best thing to do is get it in and at least let them hook the computer up to it, that'll tell you a lot. I had a spark plug on my #5 cylinder go bad on last years boat, your symptoms sound familiar to what I was dealing with, but no way to tell for sure until the computer got plugged in. | ||

Posts: 677 Location: Twin Cities, MN | Lots of things could be the issue primer bulb fuel line anti-siphon valve pulse fuel pump low pressure fuel pump fuel filter I suggest having a mechanic take a look as mentioned above | ||

Posts: 32954 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I'd recommend you get the motor in and have it checked on computer, too many possibilities to guess and not a good idea to keep running it. | ||

Just thought I would update this incase someone has the same problem in the future. They took the boat out on the water with their computer hooked up and they think its the Throttle Positioning Sensor. They said once the boat would hit 5k RPM that the sensor would shut down. Under 5k it would re-engage and be fine. They said it would cost me $600.00. Seems steep but they are going to bring it back out on the lake once they install part to makes sure it working properly. | ||

Posts: 393 Location: Hopefully on the water | Beavergrad, did your motor send a alarm when it happened or just "bogged down". Mine is doing the same thing without a alarm going off . I got mine in the shop now and will find out what it is tomorrow. | ||

I got mine in the shop now and will find out what it is tomorrow. I had no alarm too. Where did you bring your boat into? I brought my to Marine Max in Rogers. It cost $586.00 and they took it out on the water to find the problem and once they installed the TPS they took it back out to make sure it was fixed. They also replaced the hookup for my trailer lights because I accidently ran over it...didn't even ask them to do it and they did it for free, they did a good job. (Except they left the master switch to my boat batteries on and I found out last weekend at 6am when I put my boat in the water...not too happy, but oh well.) Let me know what happens. | ||

Posts: 393 Location: Hopefully on the water | i just got a call from the Pamps here in Green Bay and they said it was the #4 & 6 plugs that were fouled. They put it on the computer and only found it went into Guardian mode for 12 seconds and I have 85 hours on the motor. I called them back to see if they were going to water test it or not and they are getting back to me to on it if they can submitt a water test for warranty. It wouldn't be too fun to put new plugs in and still have something wrong with it. | ||

They needed to keep the computer on it while running the boat. If they found a problem with your off the water good for you and hopefully thats it. | ||

Posts: 393 Location: Hopefully on the water | i got another call from them and they said they found more. The VST (Vapor Seperating Tank) was gummed up and dirty. They are going to clean it out. They also said the same as you about the water test with not finding anything in the shop it would need to be water tested with the computer to see if there is anything else going on. Hopefully this is it. | ||
