Posts: 189 Location: Barrington, Il | I saw Steve Van Leishout on the water over the weekend. The phrase above is his signature, one way to recognize him. Thank you, Steve, for the reminder. We saw him again later in the bar and were able to chat. My wife was going thru Chemo during the Chicago Muskie Show a couple of years ago. Some people were shocked to see her in her dorag and bald head. As soon as Steve saw her, he pulled her into the Slammer booth and gave her a big hug. We did not even really know Steve but because of what he went thru he knew what was going on. Jen has another surgery coming up in a couple of weeks to hopefully finish off the cancer treatments. I know alot off people are struggling in these economic times but as long a you have your health and can go musky fishing you are truly blessed. Thank you Steve for the reminder. It IS a good day to be alive.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | sorting through my office and throwing stuff away. i literally just threw away my pre-op paperwork and then read this thread. a year ago i was positive lymphoma through all the testing being done. thankfully mine turned out to be another albeit rare disease that i've survived. the reality, the fear, the consequences and the process is one i'll never forget and i hope yours turns out the same ... at the end of the day, we're even and need to remember that the rug can get pulled at anytime ... live like it's the last day you'll get and leave a bright spot in your tracks!

Posts: 20218 Location: oswego, il | Millsie, i hope all works out ok for your wife and yourself. Steve is one of the truely good guys. I do not think you could stuff any more positive in him. I was lucky today. As I stopped at a stop sign, I see 4 cars coming around the tight curve and down the hill. The fourth car decides to pass all of them. He squeezes between me and the car coming at me going through the intersection. 3 wide on a narrow road. If our windows were down, I could have smacked him in the head. Missed me by inches.

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Every day we have is a gift. SVL knows how to use that gift to add a bit of positive to everyone else's day, and that also is a gift. He's a good friend, and we need to get out on the water again this year.

Posts: 656 Location: Forest Lake, Mn. | Millsie: My best wishes to your wife and you as you battle cancer together. Though I have never been sick, I consider myself a survivor of the cancer wars. I've battled lung, breast, brain, and skin cancer with 2 of my loved ones, they didn't win their battles. Sometimes it's the tough things in life that teach the deepest lessons. I think you are finding that to be true. It's the hard times that bring a couple closer together and helps them to realize just how much they love each other. You and your wife are in my prayers. Posts: 250 | Millsie, my best wishes to you and your family through this trying time with battling cancer. One of my best buddies has a saying that I find myself saying all the time, when someone asks how are you doing, the reply is " Super good, but I will get better" !!!! In my world, there is not a more positive response. God bless. Steve Ruhmann
