rigth now you'd think we'll have ice all summer ... still lots of ice and with temps. in the teens overnight expected for next week you would think it would be a long time. couple days ago i've seen vehicles on ice, now i wouldn't tell anyone what to do or not on vehicles, but personally wouldn't think twice about shooting out there on my 4-wheeler on ice i'm familiar with.

all that said, i've seen other years where i thought we'd have ice for opener and then sure enough sometime around april 20 give or take a few days the water is open once again. lakes like tom, trout and the twins though ... who knows.

sooner or later it'll be blue again ... I HOPE!

I was up near Merrill last Sunday and it seemed like the ice was breaking up, the backwaters of Lake Du Bay had plenty of small spaces of open water.

The ice will be out in 2 weeks, my guess. It's cold now and the ice is still safe to fish on, but it is pulling away from shore on all the lakes. All we need is a few warm windy days and it will sink fast, a little rain will help too.

I drove my Mille Lacs the other day and there were guys on the ice. Then we've been out of the ice for almost the last month. What a difference a little bit of latitude can make.

We could use a little Global Warming. It will show up around July. Last year the ice went out on pelican around the 20th. I have 35 docks waiting to go in.

It's still below freezing today at past 12:30. I may have to get the Frabill R2 Tech out again, and hit the ice this week.

Every year about this time someone asks "are we going to be ice fishing the (walleye) opener?" Every year we have open water to fish. I'm gonna say 4/28 in Price/Iron County.

The ice is out on Forest Lake in the Twin Cities, Mn. It went out a few days ago. I first noticed open water over the weekend. So I'd guess it actually went out late last week. This is early for here. I haven't been by Bald Eagle or White Bear. I assume that it's out on Bald Eagle as it's about the same make up as Forest. White Bear is deeper water and might still be iced up... or not.

Follow the progression of ice out using up to date satellite images at the following link:

http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/region_map.html

Looks like as of 1:43 this afternoon the Wisconsin ice out line runs west to east from approximately St. Croix Falls to Oconto Falls. Everything will be open long before fishing opener.

The ice on George looks solid as can be, several folks out ice fishing today. Weather looks like we have a thaw on the way now.
